I have been working at Johnson Controls full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

With the legacy of over 100 years in manufacturing, the potentials to embrace technology and innovations is huge. A few bright minds within the company, when encountered with, foster that belief often.

    Cons

Shift in priorities too often, Lack of thought leadership, Very old school career building model, funds being mis-utilized across programs/projects, quite a few of the leaders are more active building and maintaining relationships instead of driving innovations and promote business values, moderate compensation and benefit package, very very challenging atmosphere top plan for immediate, mid and long term career.

I have been working at Johnson Controls full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The company has nice benefits. The position itself no trills. Nothing changes often. You sit a lot.

Free lunch on the last day of the month.

    Cons

The concept of the job is to blast out as many bills as possible. Then you are graded based on your accuracy and speed monthly. You can only have one mistake for the whole month. Management is negative. You have a monthly 1 on 1 and after any comments you make during the meeting your manager will email you an summary with negative comments after what you said. You work at cafeteria style tables and for it being a HVAC company the temperature is boiling hot from spring to fall. Almost nothing is ever scheduled everything is just winged.

You have to compete for work. You are REQUIRED to continuously click refresh until work shows up. Then claim it fast as possible. This was called the Hungry Hungry Hippo method. If you don't do this you will fail to reach their quota. This was explained to me after I was put on a Performance Improvement Plan.

There's a point tier system youre reviewed with. If you miss a goal by .05 they talk to you like you critically need help. That .05 can cost you 20% on your review.

There is zero thinking ahead. This is a 'not a problem until it's a problem' environment.

    Advice to Management

Use critical thinking. Manage employees. Understand different employee skill sets. Try to reduce down time. Actually talk or walk near by your employees. Maybe spend some time looking internally and using some self improvement skills you mindlessly recite.

    Pros

JCI is an outstanding global company with a strong people growth culture. If you are looking for an opportunity to advance and experience new challenges then JCI is a good company to explore.

    Cons

JCI is currently going through a merger and shedding layers of managers so there is a great deal of uncertainty in terms of employment.

    Advice to Management

Focus on execution of existing strategy and be careful of letting talent go that you will be rehiring the next year.

    Cons

Low Pay and Too Much Turn Over.

I worked at Johnson Controls as an intern (Less than a year)

    Pros

    - Was given great projects where I was able to make a positive contribution to the engineering team that I was assigned to.
    - Interdisciplinary projects consisted of collaborating with different kinds of engineers as well as with the upper management.
    - Manager was transparent and laid down what I had to do, while helping me stay on track.
    - Great support from my mentors and clear guidance
    - Pretty laid back management, as long as you get your work done
    - Overall pretty cool place to work and gain experience

    Cons

    - Although the projects I was assigned were great, at times I felt I could've been doing something more interesting/exciting. Other than that, nothing much to say.

    Advice to Management

    - Perhaps think about helping out of state interns a little more with finding housing.
    - Other than that, great job with the internship program!

    Disapproves of CEO

I worked at Johnson Controls (More than 3 years)

    Pros

In my case and experience I think that it is a great company to work for, it used to have many growth opportunities, and an open culture where different point of views were listened to.

    Cons

Many changes derived from Automotive spinoff - Adient.
As in very large corporations, changing processes and ways of working requiere a significant amount of time to convince numerouss stake holders from severall BU's.

    Advice to Management

Continue efforts towards showing through example JCI's Values, making sure this cascades down to all the organization, especially with new acquisitions and outside US operations.
