I worked at Johnson Controls full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Diverse, Great Lunch, and Wonderful Place.

    Cons

Low Pay and Too Much Turn Over.

    Advice to Management

The Turnover Needs To Be Addressed. When getting rid of FT workers and bring on contractors in their place is not good for moral.

I worked at Johnson Controls as an intern (Less than a year)

    Pros

    - Was given great projects where I was able to make a positive contribution to the engineering team that I was assigned to.
    - Interdisciplinary projects consisted of collaborating with different kinds of engineers as well as with the upper management.
    - Manager was transparent and laid down what I had to do, while helping me stay on track.
    - Great support from my mentors and clear guidance
    - Pretty laid back management, as long as you get your work done
    - Overall pretty cool place to work and gain experience

    Cons

    - Although the projects I was assigned were great, at times I felt I could've been doing something more interesting/exciting. Other than that, nothing much to say.

    Advice to Management

    - Perhaps think about helping out of state interns a little more with finding housing.
    - Other than that, great job with the internship program!

I worked at Johnson Controls (More than 3 years)

    Pros

In my case and experience I think that it is a great company to work for, it used to have many growth opportunities, and an open culture where different point of views were listened to.

    Cons

Many changes derived from Automotive spinoff - Adient.
As in very large corporations, changing processes and ways of working requiere a significant amount of time to convince numerouss stake holders from severall BU's.

    Advice to Management

Continue efforts towards showing through example JCI's Values, making sure this cascades down to all the organization, especially with new acquisitions and outside US operations.

I worked at Johnson Controls full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Salary + bonus are good for the Midwest region.

    Cons

Tyco has taken over the leadership of Johnson Controls (post-merger). The Tyco CIO's strategy is based upon a decentralized, keep-the-lights-on minimum investment It approach with over 100 ERP legacy systems and thousands of other applications.

    Advice to Management

Care more about your people than the business because without them you wouldn't be a business!

I have been working at Johnson Controls part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    - Trust their interns with impactful work
    - Employees are treated with respect
    - Advocate communication between platforms
    - Good pay
    - Good benefits
    - Good work/life balance

    Cons

    - Sketchy CEO
    - Hierarchical structure is very integrated in operational activities

    Advice to Management

CEO needs to be more of a role model. His extreme success in business is respectful, but he isn't a very good person out of work.

    Disapproves of CEO

I worked at Johnson Controls full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Lower level management and employees are dedicated, knowledgeable and strive to do their best.

    Cons

Director level management tries to do the right thing but have a fear of retaliation from VP and above. As a result, it is customary that 50+ hour work weeks are expected due to date driven corporate initiatives.

JCI also thinks nothing of staff reductions as a primary tool to meet Wall Street expectations.

    Advice to Management

Place a higher value of employees and work-life balance
