I worked at Johnson Controls full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Good pay and benefits. Great training available to anyone that wants to take it. Very interesting challenges to be taken up.

    Cons

Since the merger no job is safe, more than 50% of the IT resources were let go along with anyone that was working close with IT. The benefits have gone down and the level of communication and substance to that communication has also gone down. There is a great deal of uncertainty and mistrust leading to things not getting done.

    Advice to Management

Be clear with the work force about the plan and what this means moving forward. If people are slated for lay off, let them know so that they at least have a chance to get ready for it and are able to start looking for new work. Allow them the opportunity to look for new jobs within the company rather than simply laying them off.

I worked at Johnson Controls full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    Acceptable opportunities for career development

    Cons

Make sure to get in writing anything the management will tell you. Otherwise they will deny it and an ultra-sensitive Legal Department will treat you as an enemy.

Management is very unprofessional when dealing with conflicts with employees.

    Advice to Management

Train your HR and Legal Department in conflict resolution. Not all employees voicing an opinion are disgruntled.

I worked at Johnson Controls full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Good Pay, good benefits, company vehicle, that's it. I loved my job and taking care of my customers.

    Cons

First - I am not a disgruntled former employee. Another employee said it best; "TYCO is the one way company, they can only do things one way, and it's not the best way" MANAGEMENT - That's the biggest problem, the managers don't want to listen, or ask the techs for input, they don't care about customer service, or taking care of the customer. I was told the "Customer Doesn't Have a Choice" It's the "Good Ol' Boys Club" as long as you are in management, Managers protect each other and could care less about the worker who actually does the work so they can get their bonuses. I put in more time than the manager ever know about and served my customers very well. IF you are only in it to make money, go for it, but don't expect to get any help from the manager. The safety tests are a joke, once you take the test - you are considered trained, and they make you take the tests every month. (some of them are the same ones over and over and over again) And once you sign the test - if something happens to you watch out, they will do everything they can to make your life miserable. I stuck with the company for so long because I was hoping that they would wake up and do something after the merger with Johnson Controls, but since the merger things only got worse.

    Advice to Management

Keep the bad managers you have - It's better for the competition!

    Pros

Getting a nice paycheck while I was looking for a better company to work for. The Adient spin off was good for my stock portfolio.

    Cons

The "merger" of Tyco and JCI. Just a purely miserable place to work since JCI's aquisition of the already doomed "operating company" previously known as Tyco.

    Advice to Management

    Good luck with that.

    Pros

Good pay and benefits. Interesting projects

    Cons

lighting department lacks skill and organization in general. Management are car salesmen types with absolutely no ethics so employees fall prey to a finger pointing attitude as a coping mechanism. You may be twice as skilled as a colleague but if a mgr does not view you as someone who will cover their butt from every angle, you won't be the promoted. I have also seen good people leave because they were refused safety measures requested.

    Advice to Management

    Ethics Training
