I worked at Johnson Controls full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

The co-workers were amazing most of the time. Company matching 401k but that is slowly decreasing. 3 weeks paid vacation starting.

    Cons

Lack of communication too many managers that lie and then later promoted. Managers in positions they have no experience in and lack the Education. Management is out of touch with day-to-day operations. Do as I say rather than lead by example attitudes. Outsourcing is their biggest accomplishment. CEO seems clueless.

    Advice to Management

Invest in leadership programs for your management staff. Effectively communicate your vision or lack there of. Just because someone has a plaque from the FBI training academy doesn't make them a great leader. Invest in your current employees and not an Outsource company!

I have been working at Johnson Controls full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Job function not difficult. Most people a pleasure to work with. Salary competitive, but not quite what it should be per the time you devote.

    Cons

Job function processes-archaic, arduous. Some office staff are just beyond difficult, catty, make coming to work extremely painful (i.e. feel sick to your stomach on a daily basis) but it pays your bills.

    Advice to Management

Stop playing favorites and pay attention to the workers who really work, not the ones who are more likely to wipe your butt rather than help turn a profit. Work-life balance... there is none. Expectation is to devote your life to this company. Corp mgt bases decisions on the little box they see, not the field offices.

    Pros

Great co-workers, good pay, benefits, and OT

    Cons

Merger with Tyco might as well have been TyCo is taking over. JC employees mostly let go. What is left are getting less and less benefits and feeling the pressure to leave.

I worked at Johnson Controls full-time

    Pros

Clean-ish work environment, Not horrible pay. But not great.

    Cons

Focus is on TPS and impossible quality standards, while completely ignoring feedback from employees that would streamline the process.

    Advice to Management

Listen to employees, and don’t shame breast-feeding mothers who want to use their own personal lunch break for pumping. I don’t tell them to pump in the dirty factory bathrooms.

I worked at Johnson Controls full-time

    Pros

Decent Pay and Bonus structure, Good Benefits, Perks, and HQ was a nice proximity to where I lived. Reasonable travel expense allowances.

    Cons

Excessive work load and travel requirements equated expectations to having two full time jobs. Targets were unclear and overproducing against agreed upon targets was met with revised targets being increased repeatedly midstream. Who you knew appeared to be more important than what you knew and your performance to goals. Flat managerial structure lent itself to an uber-competitive political environment. Very bureaucratic.

    Advice to Management

Autonomous operation of business units and plants has lead to strict operation based solely on short term P&L goal compliance at plant levels. Business units are making decisions based on making their bonus rather than doing the right thing for the whole of the stakeholders. Stumbling down this path of limited corporate governess in the business units should show a false benefit of stock/P&L performance in the short term while the organization is being stripped of its resources, experience, and skills. Net result will be a hollow corporation that off-shores its manufacturing to potentially a death spiral situation. I hope the stock price recovers enough to get out from under it.

I have been working at Johnson Controls full-time

    Pros

Was a great place to work when company was Tyco. Since merger with Johnson Control

    Cons

Many employees on the collections side have been given severance packages and given their final date of employment. Some collectors will be retained to train their replacements from Mexico. Have been told Johnson Controls has built an 11 story building in Monterrey Mexico where they are sending our jobs.

I have been working at Johnson Controls full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    Flexibility, pay, and company recognition

    Cons

There have been layoffs and reorganizations every 6 months for what seems like years. While there are initiatives to be "an innovator" and come up with the next great idea, it's been challenging to stay focused when people in the cubicles next to me are being let for and their jobs are transferred to Ireland or Mexico. Management is very top-heavy. Because of this, they often lack the understanding or appreciate the effort of their own employees. Communications between project and product groups are also lacking.

    Advice to Management

Appreciation and communication go a long way.

I have been working at Johnson Controls full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

I've been working here for 10yrs

    Cons

No room for advancement if your not part if the boys club.

    Advice to Management

Management should realize the employees with passion for the company and at least give an interview to the employees that inquire about moving up. There should be more mentoring.
