I worked at Johnson Controls full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Free batteries each year and a couple cookouts throughout the year

    Cons

No life, mandatory overtime, 7 days a week most weeks with alot of 12 hour days. Very bad management from the supervisors all the way up to the plant manager. Management only cares about their quarterly and yearly management bonuses, while we are working each weekend they have off each weekend so they get their production bonuses and we get nothing. The union is a waste, the union reps have their heads up management's butt doing whatever the company wants them to do since the company takes care and pays off the reps. The pension sucks and now I believe they don't even have one for new hires. The acid fumes are very bad on certain days inside the plant. Very bad benifets.

    Advice to Management

    Treat your employees with respect

I have been working at Johnson Controls full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Hours and pay are very fair, especially considering the work and the environment. Very quick to learn and easy to progress for a first full time job.

    Cons

Upper management/big wigs are pretty out of touch and seem to lag a few months behind what is needed at the customer facing levels. Retention time for new employees is pretty poor, maybe 40-50% of new classes (usually 4-8) actually stay through training.

    Advice to Management

Be more in touch and aware that your customers should be the #1 priority, when 10% of the customer calling in are upset about 10-15 minute wait times to get a person it's a pretty bad situation. Then when you speak to them and they're in the wrong department, you have to transfer them, and sometimes can go from annoyed to irate quickly and it causes more problems than it's worth.

I worked at Johnson Controls full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

They have a lot of company events when economy is good.

    Cons

They used to say, no one stays for the pay. If high rages is an issue for you, look elsewhere. The pay is low to fair, but do not expect to do better than that. Also, it's a specialized industry. Skills are not transferrable. So If your not interested in doing this for the rest of your life. You need to look elsewhere.

    Advice to Management

Make sure you have training in place for your new engineers.

I worked at Johnson Controls full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Before i was at Johnson, I worked for 3 places that went bankrupt, and have had coworkers make shivs in the sheet metal shop and use them on each other, and bosses best known for the way their upper lip quivers before they scream obscenities for 30 minutes at anyone handy... The corporate structure at Johnson tends to prevent any of that. Non management tends to be easy and good to work with. Training and support is easy to get and top notch. A great place to learn. You CAN make a decent buck...

    Cons

...but management will try hard to prevent that, as it hurts their numbers. long time managers are soulless capitalists at their core. They are your friend to the extent their bonuses are reliant on them being so. You CANNOT start at a low wage and work your way too a good one, you must ask for what you are happy with, and be content with 2-3%. Leave nicely and come back to get your raise.

    Advice to Management

they won't listen, better to tell the rank and file to manage the management. Learn what they are being driven to do, and recognize the limits of their ability to look out for your best interests. Or even better, look for ways to make your best interests theirs as well, and let them do the heavy lifting.

I have been working at Johnson Controls full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

great benefits, company car, gas card, laptop

    Cons

Management is overworked and I spent first month at a cubicle watching videos and the company has bad reputation for over promising and under delivering and spend most of my time saving accounts. Was told I would be earning a more based on production but after hiring I was told it takes at least a year to earn what was discussed

    Advice to Management

Be more realistic with candidates and train better

I have been working at Johnson Controls full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Great benefits, decent salaries, great products,

    Cons

Stagnant growth of internal employees due to corporate politics. Regardless of your skill set, if you are not liked personally by management , no opportunites for advancement within the company. Old and outdated systems and processes.

    Advice to Management

In order for complete growth of the company, an honest accessment of the entire leadership team needs to evaluated and modified.
