I have been working at Johnson County Community College part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

As an adjunct professor you have great control over your schedule, but can only teach a total of 6 class per year at the most.

    Cons

Adjuncting is not a career and you will not get rich doing it. There also seem to be few, if any, full-time positions available or opening up soon.

    Advice to Management

Better pay for adjuncts, and more opportunity to gain full-time positions. Also, take away the classes cap so adjuncts can continue to feed their families.

I worked at Johnson County Community College part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The faculty, professors and students are wonderful! There are a few truly exceptional departments and programs due to the supportive leadership in those areas.

    Cons

Lack of funding, lack of leadership/maturity/vision (in specific departments), politics, very few full-time opportunitites.

I have been working at Johnson County Community College part-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

    - Great community
    - Great people work here
    - World class contemporary art museum
    - Many awesome professors
    - Incredible and dedicated staff
    - Many students who go on to universities have told me the educational and career resources at JCCC exceed the same departments at the universities they attend. Especially the math resource center.
    - Employee and student safety is a top priority, and it shows.
    - A lot of really hard working students

    Cons

    - Limited upward mobility for many positions on campus
    - Upper management in the dining services department do not understand the demographic they serve (student body & employees) at the community college. They are out of sync with their employes and their primary focus is on their own pockets.
    - I have heard many complaints from museum guards and employees about unprofessional behavior by the management of the museum.

I have been working at Johnson County Community College full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

It is a helpful, encouraging atmosphere. There is an overall focus on individuals and relationships before there is a focus the bottom line.

    Cons

The traditions and procedures are stale. And change is slow and often stifled.

    Advice to Management

Take chances. Make more mistakes. Talk about vision planning. Perhaps hire a goal adviser.
