I have been working at Johnson Matthey full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Products help people and the environment.
Good benefits, 401K with extra pension-replacement component
Opportunities to travel to the UK, China and India

    Cons

Many corporate-driven initiatives are causing overload, confusion about direction, and uncertainty among staff.
Training and R&D budgets cut in the US, as company focus moves to Asia.
Major restructuring across divisions and at all levels of the organization.

    Advice to Management

Local management needs to improve how it handles Change Management.
Hold managers, supervisors and teams accountable for delivering results. Care and growth does not equate to coddling millenials. Focus more on substance when rewarding employees' contributions.
Stop the bias against employees who have been with the company more than 15 years. Value and invest in these people. Driving out people who speak up does not build a better culture.

    Pros

    Decent benefits
    Fairly kind coworkers
    clean facility

    Cons

Pay is average at best for work load
Sucking up to upper management will earn you a promotion. Not intelligence or quality of work. So don't expect to climb the ladder unless you grubble.
    Stale work environment
    Very boring, long shifts
    Socializing is sometimes frowned upon
Very little communication between upper management and workers

    Advice to Management

Spend more time investing in workers with potential and less time rewarding those who "pump your tires"

I have been working at Johnson Matthey full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

The only pro that JohnsonMatthey really has is its benefits package.

    Cons

Corporate is kept unaware of situations regarding hourly employees.
Safety is a big deal as long as it doesn't interfere with production numbers.

    Advice to Management

Place yourself in employees place and actually listen to them on suggestions. Believe it or not, we do care about the well being of the company as well.

I have been working at Johnson Matthey full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Great work benefits and very good location near west chester pa. Very friendly coworkers at lower level. Clean facility and work area. Safety to all has been given #1 priority.

    Cons

Management and supervisor poor in communication with employees. Open door policy may exist but its just open. Employee reviews are a joke with no real reviews or followup on employee comments. VIP comes to visit facility and management without telling employee the who when purpose of these visits.

    Advice to Management

Hire a person to train all levels in effective and positive communications along with mandatory staff meeting for all departments. Have programs where lower employees can express ideas and negative vibes in department and facility. Establish a daily communication method to provide all employee of daily/weekly activites and who will visits the facility and ensure everyone knows this. Talk and listen to us all.

I worked at Johnson Matthey full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

I can only speak for the hourly side of this company. (Refining & Chemicals)

Pay is well enough to live comfortably. Can participate in human resource activities such as the "wing bowl" and ice cream day, but only if you're on the applicable shift of day work. They used to provide turkeys and hams during thanksgiving for employees, but they had taken that away to cut costs. Can learn valuable skills and training, but best to learn what you can and use this place as a stepping stone to a real career.

    Cons

Do not expect to grow or move around this company. The majority of people who work here are generally nice people and mean well, but will throw you under the bus to save their own skin at any cost. Safety is at the bottom of the list for this company's values. They may preach they are safe and care about safety, but don't be fooled. More tenured employees with 7-10 years of employment can get away with just about anything, so the real work and production falls onto the new underpaid employees. Management hires supervisors and managers who lack any sort of relevant experience needed to perform or troubleshoot in relative environments.

Also to note, the union is a joke. Upper management has pulls and ties with the ability to divide the union and get anything they want from union committee. Management will take everything away they possibly can while the union sits back and watches. Anyone who speaks up will generally be ousted and left on the street looking for another job. This is not a real union shop and you have no job security whatsoever.

    Advice to Management

Hire people who have relative experience in supervisory positions. Stop siphoning life from the employees who break their back everyday. Treat your employees like people, not an expendable number. Spend money to actually fix things, instead of creating temporary solutions.
