    I worked at Johnsonville full-time

    Pros

Great people to work with, all facilities close to each other. Great health insurance.

    Cons

Kind of a hypocritical culture- talk about work/life balance yet there is a plant where employees have to constantly work weekends, including Sundays. Recently built a large new corporate headquarters (it was needed- we were running out of room) but where the product is made is very old and outdated. No plans of updating. Slapping white paint on the lunchroom doesn't make it feel any nicer. Does nice things for employees but it seems like it's only for publicity or an award, not genuine.

    Advice to Management

Get back to a family feel. It seems like the company is misaligned on several things.

I have been working at Johnsonville full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

I love that Johnsonville has such a warm culture, that truly reflects that of the small town it was named after. People smile and say hi to me all the time and I have genuinely amazing coworkers. I'm given opportunities to development myself personally and professionally and leadership is focused on giving these opportunities to absolutely anyone who is willing to take the initiative. Cross functional movement is encouraged, learning from mistakes is ok, and I don't need to dance around political red tape. Johnsonville also has a lot of programs that benefit members like tuition assistance, reimbursement for fitness activities (like a gym membership or class), and scholarships for members' kids!

    Cons

Sheboygan is an hour away from Milwaukee and Green Bay, so some people have a long commute if they want to live in a downtown area. Sheboygan county is right on Lake Michigan though and there are nice surrounding communities.

    Advice to Management

Preserve the culture as we grow into a larger company.

I have been working at Johnsonville full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Samples/member store, not a lot of micro management, freedom, privately held, most people nice but not like it was, family owners are great when we get to see them

    Cons

Corporate politics, drama, disconnect between owners and mid level employees. Gossiping is the worst. Never was this way a few years ago. Spend more time watching your back and upper level listening to the gossip more than the facts and backing the good people. We have lost a few in the last year or so. Afraid we will loose more. The culture is dead from what it was. Not family or caring about people anymore. Not sure if I will get to retire from global office or not as it's driving me away. Others feel the same yet are afraid to express truths anymore. It's all perception anymore. Kiss up and say what they want to hear. Keep your head low from the gossip groupies. Some in every department. Always looking at google for the latest.

    Advice to Management

Pay better, listen and back employees. Stop the drama and whispers about other people. It's tearing the place apart. Good people might leave. Don't base pay just in WI but nationally.

I worked at Johnsonville full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Strong brand, growing company. Midwestern values, very down to earth culture (but changing). Very fun environment with genuinely nice coworkers. Opportunities are there to learn a lot cross fuctionally with the team environment.

    Cons

Culture was great but it's changing. Too many projects are allowed to happen at once and sr leadership does not make the tough decisions to help members prioritize and say no so they can have work life balance. Sometimes feels like everyone is running in circles. Family owned business - family causes a lot of noise and distraction. The company is trying to figure out how to become a large company while still keeping that small company feel and culture. This is a very difficult task so I appreciate the challenge at hand for leadership.

    Advice to Management

Make sure that you practice what you preach as far as culture and the importance of coaching members to be the best they can be. Just because members have been there a long time doesn't mean they are ignorant. Teach them business. Teach them new things. The company needs to figure out what it wants to be when it "grows up". Bring more discipline to planning processes and decision making.

I worked at Johnsonville full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

The feeling of team environment was real.

    Cons

Not fully committed to continuous learning.

    Advice to Management

If schooling was paid 100% with a handcuff clause like a lot of other companies, the commitment for continuous learning would be higher.
