I have been working at Joie de Vivre full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

More independent, can take lunches and breaks when convenient, can make quick work-errands if needed at my leisure, start and finish my own work no need to pass on duties I can see everything through. Great way to get your foot in the door to become manager. Lots of opportunities to observe and participate in managerial meetings, finding solutions and making important decisions.

    Cons

Some managerial duties may fall on this department, but no manager perks. However, that's a part of the upwards ladder anywhere you go.

    Advice to Management

Offer more opportunities to train those in this position who want to move up, especially in the company.

I have been working at Joie de Vivre full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

JDV lets you be yourself. There's no corporate script on what you can say or do. Gives the employees freedom to be professional but have fun. I've been able to cultivate relationships with frequent guests.

    Cons

The company is changing and that does create some chaos. What worked last week might not work next week.

    Advice to Management

    Figure yourselves out.

    Advice to Management

    Get your people trained.

I have been working at Joie de Vivre (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Excellent benefits package at the Dream Inn which is longer JDV. Most likely because we are a unionized property.

    Cons

Managers are fake and are more concerned with squeezing every penny than the needs of the guests. Implement programs that guest don't approve of then blame the employees when guests are unhappy

    Advice to Management

Inspire your stafff and actually show them that you value their employment rather than blaming them for your policies

    Pros

For the most part it was a good place to work. The people I worked with were fun to be around and the health insurance was great. I'd definitely recommend.

    Cons

Typical downsides of any service industry job. You'll be expected to work nights, weekends, and holidays. Dealing with the general public in a luxury hotel can be grating at times.

    Advice to Management

I think there could be more flexibility when it comes to scheduling...at times it was difficult to plan for much of a life outside of work.

I worked at Joie de Vivre (More than a year)

    Pros

Great company culture. The ceo, Chip Conley is a great guy. Alot of intersting co workers. They genuinely value their employees happiness and job satisfaction. They also work hard to make sure they are able to find fulfillment outside of their job.

    Cons

none. I enjoyed all aspect of working for joi de vivre at the Kabuki Spa location. Can not muster on e bad thing to say about them or the staff they train and keep.

    Advice to Management

Keep doing what you are doing. Maybe consider paying more and offering better stock or 401k options to get and retain the best employees possible.

    Pros

Employees friendly and some of the benefits are great

    Cons

Better pay, more room for growth, and outdated equipment

    Advice to Management

Upper management needs improvement some of them have been there too long and only see things their way and change is not an option in their view.

I worked at Joie de Vivre full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Nice employee rates. 2 free nights every 3 months. Fun, funky, boutique hotels with lots of personality. Small company, no corporate BS.

    Cons

Smaller hotel company, wages were not really comparable to the larger, more corporate companies.
