    Pros

Decent salary, large district; lots of opportunities for professional growth.

    Cons

Too much leadership change; too much personnel change to other buildings (Sped. coordinators, psychologists, speech pathologists etc.); No ELA curriculum.

I worked at Joliet District 86 full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

If you want to actually make a difference, this is a great place to work. Flexible enough to include mentoring into the daily curriculum.

    Cons

Needs a stronger and more rigorous curriculum. If you have experience in that area and run a very structured classroom, you'd excel here!

    Advice to Management

    None

I worked at Joliet District 86 full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Great staff and teachers - 'we are in this together' mentality most of the time
Great position teachers with "tough skin"
Benefit package is one of the best

    Cons

Disorganized curriculum - difficult for teachers to maintain cohesiveness - lots of lost time and extra planning
No support for Special Education teachers - lack of understanding of job requirements by administration - specifically principals and assistant principals without special ed background
Administration not flexible and understanding - somewhat demeaning to teachers/staff

    Advice to Management

Please support Special Education Staff in a more positive manner - train administrators to understand special education teacher's jobs (day in and day out job requirements) which are quite different than a general education teacher ---- to keep the best of the best for the students. Have administration job shadow or work off sub plans so that they experience what your special education teachers are doing - to realize how valuable of staff they truly are.

    Pros

Great insurance benefits for self and family

You must agree with administrators. They will let go of good teachers that really do want to teach the diverse learners, but keep teachers that are burned out and hate teaching.

    Advice to Management

    listen to teachers
