I have been working at Jones Walker for more than 3 years

    Pros

This is arguably the most prestigious firm in Louisiana. Seniors partners are locally well connected. Firm generally foots the bill for Associates to get involved in local organizations. Relatively nice office for NOLA.

    Cons

Lack of proper training for young Associates. Lack of transparency firm-wide and group-wide. "NY Big Law" type hours without the NYC infrastructure, training, and compensation. Very insular and NOLA focused. Is a full service firm but practice groups are very compartmentalized; very rare for work circulate cross groups.

    Advice to Management

    None. Management is all knowing.

I worked at Jones Walker full-time

    Pros

Great infrastructure and support staff in the IT department with countless resources for case management.

    Cons

Working with multiple locations posed challenges that stemmed from lack of communication at times.

    Advice to Management

Sometimes there is a disconnect between administration and mode of operation and what works best to serve a client on a particular case.

I worked at Jones Walker full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

Benefits, paid parking, great people in the Houston office to work for. Houston office has a Family & Friendly type environment.

    Cons

Home Branch and Local Branch have a tendency to not agree on how the firm should be ran, making decisions without discussing it with the Houston office.

    Advice to Management

Home office needs to listen to the staff and listen to your local branch offices.

I worked at Jones Walker full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Enjoyed the people I worked with and the job itself.

    Cons

Jones Walker is a large, older law firm and they are very top-heavy, so decisions are extremely slow to innovate. They are well behind the curve on technology and it's applications.

    I worked at Jones Walker

    Pros

The benefits such as retirement and health insurance were great. The location downtown is also a positive.

    Cons

JW doesn't seem to care about helping young attorneys develop and it seems they are suffering for it. It will be interesting to see how the culture changes in the coming years.
