I have been working at Journeys full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Results oriented 40% discount Staff is usually great

    Cons

Upper management gives store management slim guidelines to work with, especially if you are at a higher volume store. Results oriented 50+ hour work weeks for management with very little room to take vacation. Can be way more if you are at a low volume store with a small management team Payroll department is god awful

I worked at Journeys part-time for less than a year

    Pros

-laid back people -flexible hours -40% discount

    Cons

-if you have a manager that follows corporate procedure it's AWFUL. You will be REQUIRED to bring out 4 pairs of shoes for every pair a customer tries on, you have to meet your sales goal or you will be written up, etc. Can become very toxic very fast.

I worked at Journeys full-time for more than a year

    Pros

40% discount is nice, coworkers are usually cool, dress code is basically non existent

    Cons

Everything else... The upper management in this company is made up of under qualified originally teenage hires whose boss thought they were cool at some point and kept moving them up, all a bunch of kids that don't deserve their positions. Proven by the "sales meeting" held every year for top selling managers and everyone above them... basically a 4 day long drinking and cocaine fest paid for by the company and sponsored by big shoe brands sending them all home with tons of swag. Weekly hours minimum for managers is 45, but expect at least 50, more like 60 during holiday. The shifts are 10 hours (minimum) and it's an exciting rarity if you get 2 days off in a week, definitely never ever in a row. As far as pay, expect between 125-150 per week plus a 4% commission on anything you sell. You're expected to bring in almost half of the store sales yourself to meet your goals and keep your job, but you're also expected to complete HOURS of other work every day; daily sending and receiving of shipments, usual managerial stuff, constant re merchandising of the entire store, almost daily inventory management, etc. all while being on the sales floor all day every day and training and evaluating everyone else at all times. The pressure from DMs is overwhelming, and the expectations are unbelievable considering how little training and development you receive. This company is built on exploiting kids who start out wanting to be in a job where they can be themselves and not feel stuck behind a desk. They pride themselves on promoting from within, but that's really just a ploy to keep people around for the least amount of money possible (I made minimum wage as a manager many weeks) because they feel seen by being promoted to positions they aren't ready for and being left to struggle.

I worked at Journeys part-time for more than a year

    Pros

-40% discount but limited by dollar amount, as in you got $50 in discount every month you worked there. So if you wanted $100 pair of shoes, you used your discount, you now have $10 of discount left to use for the month. -Attire is casual, no real dress code -flexible hours and usually short shifts -meet a lot of different people and advise on shoes/fashion, lots of customer interaction -sales skills are great for your resume for landing more permanent and professional sales-based jobs -promote within and quick advancement if you're good at selling

    Cons

-the pay is HORRIBLE. You get an hourly rate OR your commission, not both. If you're working at a lower or mid-tier volume store you're almost guaranteed to just make the hourly rate. -managers are over-worked and expected to put in 50-60 hours/week, 70-80 during the holidays with no overtime compensation -store to store is extremely different on how its run, my manager kept pulling me off the sales floor, even though I was his co, and I got paid mostly by my commission so he was personally screwing my paychecks. -managers will steal sales from part-time constantly, therefore screwing their paychecks -shipment days are the worst and a lot of managers will leave it all to the part-time and refuse to help with anything, even if there isn't enough part-time help to finish it then expect the closing manager to do it even though they aren't paid hourly -stores are usually in horrible condition because, again, most managers refuse to do anything other than sell, even if there isn't enough part-time to complete tasks
