Excellent culture. Pivots quickly ensuring relevance. Faculty, staff, and administration model mission, vision, and values every day. The university cares deeply about its students and their professional success as caregivers and providers. The organization "walks the walk."
Cons
Typical growing pains associated with a fast-moving organization. Process improvement could strengthen operations. To properly scale sometimes means having to slow things down so that outputs are more fully baked. There have been some heavy sunk costs associated with academic programs that didn't make it off the tarmac, and the adoption of some costly systems that were not properly vetted before the investment was made. There has been on occasion a history of disproportionately centralizing power in the hands of too few who, though well-intentioned, led to some bad turns and unnecessary waste. The university is, for the most part, aware of such conditions and is making efforts to rectify them by recruiting the right talent and building more substantial operational guard rails.

As an employee, I have been fortunate enough to be a part of this institution for several years, and I can confidently say that it has been a transformative experience. From the moment I joined Joyce University, I have been impressed by the level of professionalism, commitment, and dedication of my colleagues. The university's leadership team has created a culture of inclusivity, respect, and excellence, which has enabled me to grow both personally and professionally. I have also had the opportunity to work with some of the brightest minds in academia, who have challenged me to expand my knowledge and skills. The university provides ample opportunities for professional development and encourages its employees to take on new challenges, which has been instrumental in my growth and career progression. Moreover, Joyce University values its employees' well-being and provides a supportive and nurturing work environment. The university offers comprehensive health and wellness benefits, flexible work arrangements, and a range of employee assistance programs. In summary, I cannot recommend Joyce University highly enough. It is a place where employees are valued, respected, and given the tools to succeed. I am proud to be a part of this institution and look forward to continuing my journey with Joyce University.

- Lack of authenticity and empathy. Many feel that their voices aren't heard and feel excluded from important decisions. - Leadership feels like an "exclusive/mean club" that is impossible to break in. - High turn over for Nursing Deans who have proven to be unsuccessful, and this pattern continues. - Easy to have stunted growth as many favorite/unqualified/toxic people get promoted, and those who don't fit that mold are ignored and not valued. - Fear of rejection and failure are rampant. Employees don't share their thoughts or ideas because they are scared of retaliation. - Many things the organization says they are passionate about is not true. They are "check-box" oriented and don't do what they say they are doing. It's all a façade for accreditation and the public eye.

I haven't worked in such a toxic environment in over a decade. You will feel constantly manipulated by mid-level management. "Mean girl energy". I felt like I was in middle school all over again. No outlined training. If you do ask questions you will be bullied on why you have questions. If you didn't have anxiety before this job you will leave you with it from the weird office politics. If you want to grow and be successful at a job this place isn't it. There are plenty other jobs out there that encourage growth from qualified leaders. Don't sell your soul for this company.

Joyce is a great place to "come to work" every day. They have openly embraced the transition by many employees, if their role allows for it, to a hybrid work model. They have a generous PTO policy which also helps enforce a positive work-life balance. (I think we're getting really good at respecting time off and allowing people to "take a break". It's quite exciting!) Joyce has prioritized investment in systems, processes and people. Expectations and goals of the organization are transparent and shared and discussed openly. There is a strong sense of familial culture at Joyce. People genuinely like each other and there are lots of opportunities to contribute and engage.
Cons
Growth and the frequent change that comes with it can be hard. It's not for everyone.

Pros
I have been with the College for a couple of years and have to say I am proud to be associated with it. This institution sets the bar high and is focused on hiring high-quality talent who can hit the ground running from day one. The College is growing to meet the needs of the healthcare industry, and the talent they are bringing on is highly qualified and innovative. There is something really noble in what we are doing here. I appreciate the autonomy I have been given and the risks I have been afforded to take. I feel like I am respected, heard and supported.

Quite honestly, I do not have any cons that are worth addressing to the general public. Sure, can things run smoother, can we communicate better, etc. yes, but so can any other organization. What I can say is, I have had the opportunity to work in some really amazing organizations in my career. Every place has its ups and downs. What I truly appreciate about Ameritech is that at the end of day my contributions are putting more healthcare workers into my community. It's the first time in my career that I feel really good about the work I am doing!

-Teaching remotely is convenient -The dedicated students -Faculty -Tuition reimbursement
Cons
-For-profit organization -High turnover in nursing leadership and both didactic and clinical faculty -Poor communication and little transparency -Leadership / Administration send emails throughout the day, evenings, and weekends (even holidays) which makes faculty believe they are expected to be glued to their work. This sets the expectation that if management is working nights, weekends, and holidays, faculty should be, too. -Many in leadership come across as condescending in how they talk to faculty. Faculty meetings via Zoom are uncomfortable at times due to witnessing how management/leadership address individual faculty members when questions are asked or opinions are voiced (FYI: don't speak up or ask questions in meetings) -Leadership tends to micromanage and allows faculty very little access to their LMS courses (teach it, but don't touch it, basically). No editing allowed. -The university boasts an "Unlimited PTO" policy, but taking a vacation is nearly impossible as faculty have heavy workloads so they can't fill in for one another. In fact, just plan on teaching from wherever you are vacationing. Those in leadership/management positions don't/can't fill in for faculty due to daily "all day meetings," so faculty must teach their courses even when they are sick or on vacation. -The faculty workload is difficult to manage when leadership expects course content leads to revamp courses (complete overhaul) STAT. -Faculty who aren't tech-savvy are hired to teach remotely via Zoom which doesn't work well for students trying to learn the information -Nursing faculty aren't always assigned to teach their specialty. For example, putting an instructor in an advanced med-surg course who only has experience in community health is not a good idea for the instructor, the co-teachers, or the students -The nursing program accepts any student who can fund the $60k+ price tag for an associates degree, even if students don't meet requirements for admission (per required entry exam). The university accepts as many students as they can every 15 weeks. Historically there have been cohort sizes between 320-400 students and few instructors to teach that many students. -NCLEX-RN passing scores dropped significantly when it was decided that saving the organization money took precedence over services to proctor remote exams -Faculty are considered "easily replaceable" (which was quoted in faculty meeting). -It would be considerate of the university to put money into faculty, such as a small gift card, or maybe a "thank you" $5 gift card during Nurses Week. A little Christmas gift would be thoughtful and boost morale, especially knowing leadership/administration receive bonuses regularly. While faculty have been hoping for raises as cost of living increased, those in leadership were flown to Paris for a ten-day "Leadership Workshop" training. There haven't been raises in years per the few faculty who have been there for awhile. -Toxic culture. Few faculty remain who have been with the college for over a year or two. Not having seasoned faculty says a lot about culture. Those who have been teaching for a couple semesters share advice to new faculty such as, "Be seen [at meetings] but don't be heard" and "fly under the radar" and "don't speak up" and "don't trust anyone in management." There is safety in staying on mute (when in faculty Zoom meetings).
