Pros
I was so excited when I first joined the Julep team. Free products and free services once a month. I liked that it was a clean and green environment and focused on non toxic products. All about women empowerment and charities. It seemed like a great place to work.
Cons
Not so clean! The back bar area is filthy. Employee parking? For get it. Expect to move your car every couple hours. I can go on and on about how terrible this company is ran. They do not listen or treat their employees well. Managers not fit to manage. An owner who does not care to show up to mandatory meetings with the parlors. They cannot keep their employees. Over worked and under appreciated. Who would stay? I'm on my way out the door. This company is a JOKE!!!!!! Lots of rumors the company is going down.

Great for entrepreneurs
Jun 2, 2015 - Anonymous Employee in Seattle, WARecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
Pros: Ownership, Impact, Mission, personal development. Julep is an incredible, disruptive start-up in beauty, which means that you have an opportunity to have as much of an impact as you create for yourself. I've worked for other start-ups and larger companies that bill themselves as entrepreneurial (Amazon) and can honestly say that I have never felt so supported to take a hypothesis-driven risk than at Julep. Amazing training ground for anyone with an entrepreneurial, ownership-oriented outlook. People who work at Julep are smart, collaborative, creative, and scrappy, and a lot of fun to work with. Sense of humor, willingness to take risks, intelligence, and drive/ambition/passion are the unifying factors of the culture.
Cons
Fast paced, founder-CEO led company means quick decisionmaking, so if that's not your style you'll probably feel frustrated about the "whiplash" you experience. On the flip side, if you come up with a great idea, especially if you have the data to back it up, we'll act on it immediately.

Troubling company that deserves better managers
Dec 24, 2014 - Anonymous EmployeeRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
Lots of great hard working people that make Julep work. Their vision is strong and their goals are set high.
Cons
Managers have lack of experience, lack of any good ideas. If you are a part of the technology team. You'll be overworked and under-satisfied. Was let go with about 10 others without notice, with half my last pay check. And this is the first employer that won't pay out any PTO to me. Unfortunately with the lack of leadership and any good ideas to continue. They're bleeding money and won't be around in the next few years.

Great Environment, Smart Teammates, Challenging & Fulfilling work
Apr 4, 2014 - Anonymous Employee in Seattle, WARecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
Exceptional co-workers and environment that makes each day enjoyable. Strong startup with strong growth trajectory that allows employees to take on a multitude of projects in a challenging, fast paced environment. Junior employees are given the opportunity to take on management level projects and deliver results from week one. Hard work and success are noticed and rewarded. Handful of perks and benefits, even for guys who do not personally use the Julep projects.
Cons
Julep does have growing pains as expected with any fast growing startup, and it be difficult (and frustrating) at times to prioritize projects and track individual goals because of the constant change in the business.

Nepotism not feminism...
Jan 17, 2018 - Operations Coordinator in Seattle, WARecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
If you don’t have debt and not many respsonsibilities, an hourly job here can be fun. Mainly due to peirs, not managers. Most everyone is friendly, and Julep does happy hours with food and booze as benefits aren’t superb. There is a culture club and they do breakfast stuff. If you get hired at a good salary, some of my below ‘cons’ won’t apply to you.
Cons
These are the top 10 reasons why I chose to leave. 1. Payroll, PTO and 401k deposits were incorrect multiple times for me, being hourly. The last months I couldn’t even clock in and out. No one offered to help audit these issues. Still looking into my 401k.. 2. My manager came to my review with nothing written and no reason as to why I received the minimum raise ‘based on merit’. I’ve saved the company about 20k from the work I’ve done. 3. Multiple comments from uppers made it feel I was expendable and not valued. 4. After almost 4 years in my profession, and many more years in the working world, I was not making a livable wage even after expressing my extreme interest in persuing my careeer there, and receiving glowing feedback based on my work. 5. People are not measured on their job but by people’s opinions of them. Promotions are given to people with no background. 6. I was not credited with my ideas, even when they were inacted by others. 7. Minimal benefits, my spouse had to be on state insurance. 8. I was reprimanded for taking a scheduled day off. 9. Don’t say yes to an offer unless you’re happy with the pay as their hourly wages are low, and you won’t get pushed to salary for years. 10. Last but not least, my manager did not agknowledge I was leaving. He never said bye. I worked with him for 1 year, and was at the company for over two.

Poor leadership and they still owe me my PTO
Dec 18, 2014 - Anonymous EmployeeRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
This is a young fast moving company.
Cons
Objectives and company goals are always changing. PTO is tough to take when you always have more work on your plate than can be done in an average working day/week even for a startup. Then to not pay out earned PTO when an employee leaves is not just unfair, but against employment laws. Too many ex-julep employees are still owed money for accrued PTO.

Pros
Some smart women who are honestly trying to do a good job. Yoga, if you're into it.
Cons
What a terrible place. Multiple rounds of layoffs lately in reaction to poor sales, but under the guise of 'restructuring'. No severance for some. Management clearly doesn't know what they are doing. Every single decision is reactionary to the detriment of the brand. No one, not even the leadership, knows what the Julep brand even is. Lots of behind the scenes cattiness. A company that smiles to the public, telling everyone that things are great, all while financials are tanking and the employees are overworked, underpaid, and horribly demoralized, is not a good place to work.

Pros
I worked there for over a year in a senior management position with some really wonderful people who are genuinely trying to build a good company. Love most of the products and still use a lot of them.
Cons
Unfortunately, Julep is a mess with an unhealthy culture that starts with senior leadership and trickles all the way down. CEO has created a culture of blame and hinges most major decisions solely on her own opinion. She's hired good people with experience but doesn't listen to them. She's created a culture where only 'yes men' stay out of trouble. CEO is smart but no one knows everything, yet she will not listen to people who know what they are talking about. There is a lot of turnover as a result. The amount of money that got wasted was staggering. I witnessed many meetings where the group agreed to something that most people in the room privately thought was a bad idea -- but no one dared speak out against the CEO. CEO is constantly smiling and telling people that Julep is one big family but I can assure you that they don't really care much about employees as individuals. 'Assume Positive Intent' is something they say a lot but the culture has created an environment where most people are just trying to shift the blame on to someone else so can survive.

Pros
Clients and co-workers Location close to home
Cons
Management was terrible and after we all quit and the place shut down I hear she's still working for Julep

Pros
Julep is a fast paced environment, being a startup you should be comfortable working in ambiguous situations, think fast and execute. The key to success in my opinion is to 'test fast, fail fast and adjust fast'. Julep has an awesome culture and you will surrounded by really smart and some of then nicest folks. They are results driven and straight shooters.
Cons
Fast paced environment mean things could change fast and you will be required to adjust quickly as well.
