I have been working at Jumpstart part-time for less than a year

    Pros

Getting paid to make materials is a huge plus, the curriculum has obviously been worked on a lot and perfected.

    Cons

Loooong training days, sometimes it feels like I'm doing things a very specific and certain way just to make Jumpstart happy.

    "Site Manager"

    • Senior Management
    Former Employee - Site Manager
    No opinion of CEO

I worked at Jumpstart full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Important mission that addresses marginalized community need; rewarding to support volunteers (Corps members) with leadership/professional development; opportunities to work both at the university and community as you cultivate relationships with program partners, corps members, university staff, other Jumpstart staff; effective model when the right support exists to implement high-quality program

    Cons

The Site Manager position is the programmatic position most responsible for supporting day-to-day implementation of the Jumpstart program, but it requires an unrealistically wide breadth of work with often inadequate technical support from Jumpstart; pay was not aligned with amount of work, was not adjusted based on cost of living, and is inconsistent across sites; inconsistency in terms of prioritizing/supporting... Site Managers with professional development; lack of diversity (majority of staff in management positions are white cis-women) and occasional culturally insensitive marketing (internally and externally) despite the majority of targeted population being POC

    Advice to Management

Site Manager position is too big- leadership should respond to feedback and enlist the support of current Site Managers and Higher Education partners as they explore restructuring the Site Manager position; there should be greater focus on ensuring that resources and program support are adequate across sites and program model (i.e. affiliate v. corporate)- if there are discrepancies (for ex: inadequate federal work... study funding for Americorps performance measures to be met ) across sites, Jumpstart should work on providing financial and/or technical support needed to alleviate discrepancies; greater focus on diverse and inclusive culture
