    Pros

Juniper is a Technology driven company and strives to produce the best of the breed products. They attempt to make homegrown products. Engineers take signficant responsibilities. Juniper does strive to hire the best people for a given job. I have seen fewer instances of favoritism being used in hiring. They reward their high performing engineers very well in terms of bonus and salaries. Salaries are usually higher as compared to competitors. This is especially true on the east coast.

    Cons

It is difficult to see your career grow. People tend to work for longer years and the chance to move up is limited.

    Advice to Management

I suggest to the Senior to ensure that motivated engineers have a path to grown.

    Pros

Juniper is profitable and well positioned in the marketplace. Juniper puts a strong emphasis on its culture which promotes trust, respect, integrity, humility, and excellence. While Juniper expects a lot from its employees, it treats its employees very well. Juniper understands that it is important to have a healthy balance between work life and home life.

Juniper's compensation and benefits appear to be very competitive.

Juniper is a major player in the telecommunications equipment market and has been very successful in competing against CISCO (its main competitor). Juniper appear to be run in a very fiscally responsible manner.

    Cons

As Juniper continues to grow, sometimes it runs into some growing pains. When such issues arise, they are usually acknowledged and addressed.

    Advice to Management

Continue to maintain focus while managing the company through the current economic environment.

    Pros

Juniper is competing in a knolwdge based industry and their balance sheet has high intelectual capital. They are also competing in a high growth industry. Like a previous employer, they are #2 competing against a recognized 800 pound Gorilla (Cisco). Though Juniper is humble, they are not in the least intimidated, maybe a like David and Golliath! The most improtant reason to work for Juniper is their value system, they are very comitted to treating employees as though they are part of a values community. Day in and day out I see the committment of leaders in the company to "do the right thing".

    Cons

Company is still a bit young, about 12 years old, and still nedds to build the internal processes and managment capability to fuly scale for the future. They are getting there though.

    Advice to Management

Stay the course! Turn the economic downturn into opportunity. Be prudent and cnfident about the company's future.

    Pros

You need a stable job in a slow moving company.

    Cons

Management has lost the plot. Nepotism is rampant in the Helpdesk and the IT department. The innovators have all left engineering, leaving behind only those who can't or won't leave (golden handcuffs). Initiative is not supported, groupthink is preferred.

    Advice to Management

Stop with the lip service. Work on reducing micromanagement, rather than head count. Meet with the rank and file and stop beleive the b-s that is being spun by middle management.

    Pros

Able to have an impact on the company. I am able to interact and work with 3rd and 4th level managers. People are very helpful in wanting to get things done. There is a good attitude within the company.

    Cons

Lousy IT dept. They do not recognize that IT is a strategic resource. The current management of the ORION project is out of control and is not meeting the needs of the business. The company is not funding enough of the IT projects or even providing enough money to keep the current legacy systems going. This is impacting the businesses in that we now have to spend a lot of time trying to get IT to do their job, or put out fires that have started because IT does not have the resources to do their job, of do additional work because IT has not implemented the necessary features / functionality for you to do your work. The company is growing and needs to get out of the start up mentality and transisition into a mature company with standard policies and procedures.

    Advice to Management

Fix how IT is precieved and ranked within the company

    Pros

If you desperately need a job. If you all ready know someone who works here and a friend got you in. If you are a shallow and superficial person. If you are Indian or Asian, because they are the majority here and they rule.

    Cons

Juniper Networks is one of the 25% of the companies that lie about laying you off, will say that you quit, so they don't have to pay unemployment benefits. They are having a layoff and screwing people out of their unemployment. If you liked high school, this is the place for you. The mentality is juvenile in nature and you need to be with the right crowd to work here. If you like working with an obsolete technology and worry about getting laid off or another company trying to acquire you, you'll love it here. If you are a Cisco Systems reject, because, most of the employees here flunked out of Cisco U. Bunch of hangers on from the tech bust that hardly do any work and chase out anyone who is competent.

    Advice to Management

You're living in the past (1990s tech boom era).

    Pros

Simply put, Juniper is the best company I have ever worked for. Juniper places a high emphasis on its employee satisfaction and allows the individual to maintain a good work/life balance. Juniper is also highly customer focused which is how it should be. Pay and benefits are highly competitive if not better and management (at least my manager) is always looking out for the best interests of each team member. Opportunities to grow and advance are excellent and the overall environment is collaborative and often fun. What more could you ask from an employer?

    Cons

Onsite perks are not as extensive as some in the Valley, but that is a very minor complaint. Truth is onsite perks are actually much better than most places. Also there is some contention between various teams within Juniper which I think stems from the several acquisitions that Juniper has made over the past few years. But in the end I think most teams do colloborate successfully.

    Advice to Management

Perhaps find more ways to break down some walls between BUs. I see some of that happening now, but we still have some ways to go on that.
