    I worked at Juniper Networks (More than a year)

    Pros

    An amazing company that truly cares about the well being of their employees, and tends to them like their own child. Work Life Balance is amazing, with the exception of some teams of course.

    Cons

    Profanity - Abusing irrespective of the people around.
    Unprofessional behavior- Calling up at unprofessional hours is totally unacceptable under any circumstances.

    I worked at Juniper Networks full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

    Depended greatly upon direct manager; if manager made it so, you had chances for training, travel for presentations, book purchases, software purchases, experimentation with new ways of doing things.

    Cons

    Layoffs at least twice a year to make books look good. For the employees who remained, continual reorgs and churn; you never knew who would be behind your VP's desk, or which VP you'd report to, on any given day.

    Advice to Management

    Cut it out with the giant twice-yearly layoffs (plus smaller prunings at the end of the other quarters). It ruins morale. On the other hand, good job at starting to get act together around product offerings and software direction.

    I have been working at Juniper Networks full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    * very deep engineering talent pool
    * solid compensation
    * best-in-class sillicon, solid long-time weathered software
    * excellent culture, encouraging open challenging of ideas while keeping to a civilized tone. Easy to get help and attention, even from experienced hands
    * probably the best company in the Valley in terms of distributed infrastructure and remote work
    * very solid India team
    * good size trade-off between stuck-in-the-mud giant and no-resources-hair-on-fire startup. It's possible to make one's impact felt while not being charged with solving all the world's problems every day

    Cons

    * deep engineering culture emphasizes quality and real-working-stuff over newest fluff. This leads to a fairly slow response to many fads but new profitable directions as well
    * unless you have large amount of experience and scar tissue prepare to camp for quite a long time before you bump up the engineering ladder. However, in the meantime you'll be learning every day from the helpful, old hands
    * limited upside due to focus on technical field that is not growing fast anymore. Networking is becoming more and more "plumbing" while the services on top are the highly profitable segment for the moment

    Advice to Management

    * we could benefit from younger blood with skills in newer software development methodologies albeit obviously they are difficult to attract preferring the Web 2.0 type of shops

    I worked at Juniper Networks full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    Good compensation, on site gym with personal trainers

    Cons

    Major turnover, 4 new bosses per year. No work/life balance whatsoever. No engineering accountability at all. Engineering bias company that overruns all other organizations

    Advice to Management

    Implement checks and balances for development. Hold engineering accountable for work they throw over the wall and leave the rest of the company having to clean up the mess

    Pros

    Some of the best people I've worked with.

    Cons

    Heavy in V.P., and director level, who hire friends lacking knowledge and leadership. No strategy for months at a time. No forward progress. One Sr. Dir didn't know how/where partners purchase product. Ridiculous!

    Advice to Management

    CRN should not be recommending Juniper for Person of the Year awards. Lack of strategy and leadership in marketing and business dev. Quiet staff meetings...people afraid to voice opinions. No wonder the company is stuck in revenue earnings.
