I have been working at Juniper Systems (More than 10 years)

    Pros

This is a great company to work for. The products are awesome: rugged computers! These things can go way beyond what you'd expect from a consumer device. The people there are wonderful and compassionate, and strive to make things better.

    Cons

This wonderful, high-tech company is located in a very rural location. There is a cow pasture out the back windows. As far as horizontal mobility, the options are few. You'd better love the country life to work here.

    Advice to Management

It's sometimes difficult to retain good employees.

I worked at Juniper Systems full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Small company so its easy to get to know everyone you work with and your not just a number.
Excellent benefit package along with retirement plan.
Beautiful location and a very nice building to work in that has a small gym, racquetball ball court, and ping pong tables.
Very transparent as to what is happening within the company, financial, within the company.

    Cons

Career path is limited due to size of company, in addition there is a lot of nepotism.
When additional positions become available they do not provide others with the opportunity to apply from with in.
Extremely frugal company that expects you to share rooms when you travel in order to save costs.
Annual cost of living increases is what they consider a raise.
Although it is a small company there are excessive office politics going on and they rely heavily on the "right to work" law.
Juniper has 15 maxims that they consider to be the foundation that Juniper was build on. However, the maxims only apply when it is in the best interest of the company.

    Advice to Management

Management is disengaged as to what is truly happening within the company and needs to be proactive in addressing these problems.

I have been working at Juniper Systems full-time

    Pros

    * Company has strong maxims that govern behavior encouraging a good work/life balance, commitment and ownership by everyone.
    * Everyone works together - groups are open to interaction with each other, Easy To Do Business With includes other departments and groups
    * Management is accessible and open
    * Advancement is slow as it's a small company and not much turn-over
    * Break room, small gym and racquet ball court, country feel
    * Best company I've ever worked for!
    * Company is run very conservatively financially (no layoffs during recession!)

    Cons

    * Small-town atmosphere -- everyone tends to know everyone else's business
    * There are a lot of family members as there is no rule against nepotism
    * Company is run very conservatively financially (Salaries may not even be competitive for the region)

    Advice to Management

Accept that in order to retain and attract good engineers salaries need to increase.

    Pros

Great benefits package, wonderful people to work with and a great family environment. We have a lot of fun at work, which can be seen by how often the ping-pong table and racquetball court get used.

    Cons

For my particular job, there really isn't a career path.

    Advice to Management

Think of more creative ways to retain top talent. Conduct training for top management on business strategy and management effectiveness.
