Technical Account Manager

Being a woman in tech, I only recently started advocating for myself at work about advancement opportunities. Because of this I wanted to ask this question to my male counterparts. When you have 1:1's with your direct reports and talk about career growth / aspirations what is your managers’ response typically? I’d like to gauge how my experience (negative) differs from others. For instance are you met with blockades, enthusiasm, dread, etc?

      Pros

      -great compensation -flexible working hours -learning a lot of new stuff -working with some of the most competent people in business -fantastic work atmosphere

      Cons

      none that I could think of at the moment, although, there was a coffee shortage a few weeks ago and I wasn't very happy about it :)

      Nobody should take any rejection personally. Lee Iacocca wrote in his book that at a high enough level all applicants are equally qualified -- it's not possible to make an terrible decision. So he would take the applicant out to dinner. If the applicant salted his food before tasting, that applicant would get the boot. It's arbitrary -- he explained he had to make some type of decision. Moral: work long and hard just to be a contender. After that, it's all about luck.
