I worked at K-V Pharmaceutical (More than a year)

    Pros

Great people and fellow colleagues to work with while promoting pharmaceuticals within the Women's Health Franchise. The product trainer was excellent as well.

    Cons

The upper management seemed to be somewhat disconnected in regards to understanding the physician and patient needs from the products which they represented within the industry. The company filed for bankruptcy in 2012.

    Advice to Management

The upper management seemed to be somewhat disconnected in regards to understanding the physician and patient needs from the products which they represented within the industry.

I worked at K-V Pharmaceutical full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Since the problems with the FDA - NONE

    Cons

Very poor leadership. The company was always worried about "right now", never about the future

    Advice to Management

Determine the strategic goals and stick to them

I worked at K-V Pharmaceutical full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Looks good on a resume. My boss was pretty easy going and let me push limits.

    Cons

The women all have to wear skirts at all times due tot eh CEO and his wife's religious beliefs. Things get quickly blow out of proportion.
They have some questionable staffing tactics like having you write a 5 year plan paragraph so they can send it out for handwriting analysis...

    Advice to Management

Respect that not everyone is Jewish or comfortable in skirts & dresses

I worked at K-V Pharmaceutical full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

This company wa sa professional learning experience for me. Essentially, I learned how to manage people by seeing all of the things you don't want to do.
The biggest pro to the job was the compensation. In most areas of the company, you can't beat the money anywhere else. But offers were formulated without regard to the salary structure in a department- so you might be making $20K less than the person next to you!

Some great peopel were at this company- some of the most talented I have ever worked with.

    Cons

When I was there, the company was very much controlled by a husband and wife team. Every decision was made by them or funnelled through them. Interestingly, they would keep things hidden from each other at times- which created quite an interesting dynamic in the office. The company was highly political, with tons of people spending the majority of their time positioning themselves appropriately. I remember the feeling that I could be fired any day, but the next I was the star employee- you never knew where you were on the spectrum. Work-life balance was non-existent in my area. My boss, out of fear of her boss, would start calling my cell at 6:30 in the morning with rapid fire questions and demands. If you wanted to set foot out of the corporate building before 5:30, they thought you were crazy. I remember we were all herded into a conference room to review corproate press releases one night- until 9pm. I'm not in PR, nor have I ever been. It was bizzare.

    Advice to Management

My advice to current management- just manage in the exact opposite way as the company was managed before and you might have a shot.

I worked at K-V Pharmaceutical full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

I was given the freedom to perform the work I outlined in my action plan needed to be completed and was given the support when I met resistance from existing emplyees.

    Cons

The company was very highly leveraged, and under strict financial controls. When it was not able to meet its financial obligations, management did not look at the people who bailed then out in the first place.

    Advice to Management

The company made a strategic mistake when pricing the new product it was bringing to market. This ultimately cause the company to have to file for bankruptcy protection.

I worked at K-V Pharmaceutical full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

In the mid-2000's was a great palce to work with great benefits and people. Good work-life balance, evolved daily with extreme openess to change and new ideas. High growth at the time.

    Cons

Senior management at the time apparently made very poor decisions in the quality area leading to a major downsizing from which KV has still not fully recovered. The aforementioned managers are no longer in control and it is understood that new management is making headway.

    Advice to Management

    Good luck!!
