    I worked at K12 full-time

    Pros

    Nice people to work with.

    Cons

The company is in permanent flux. They reorganization and let people go because they are over budget. They don't care about their employees at all. They give bonuses but no raises. They over work people and then discard them.

    Advice to Management

    Listen to your employees.

    I worked at K12 full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    I liked working with students

    Cons

They take money from the government that is meant for students and make enough of a profit to be publicly traded.
They would not let me make any improvements to the dismal school.
The students only had 3 teachers, the rest were substitutes.
I had to take a shower every day after work to feel like I wasn't a piece of crap.

    Advice to Management

If you are going to close a school dont make the workers figure it out, Thats why we jumped ship.

    I worked at K12 full-time

    Pros

    one hour lunch breaks
    freedom to work from home

    Cons

Management is not competent and many of the managers have a criminal past just google them.

    Advice to Management

Hire managers who do not have a criminal background and stop being prejudice when promoting and hiring blacks in upper management.

    I worked at K12 full-time

    Pros

    The children and Families

    Cons

Horrible leadership and management in Texas that has led to a mass exodus of great workers. Extremely negative and toxic environment in the office due to the leadership in charge. The leadership is morally deprived, chaotic, manipulative, dishonest and overwhelming incompetent. For an online school that claims to be the answer for bullied children, it has a bully in charge of the office. Also, the HR team commits multiple labor law violations.

    I worked at K12 full-time

    Pros

Large company with benefits, and techonology based.

    Cons

Struggles to perform stated function (education).

    Advice to Management

Your systems should be more interactive on a student level. Also, it would help to hire people with experience in both educaiton and business.

I worked at K12 as a contractor (Less than a year)

    Pros

The money is good. Most of the parents are wonderful. And there's air conditioning.

    Cons

The systems are clunky and illogical. The scripts don't flow. The requirements are near impossible to accomplish if you care at all for customers or giving good service. Management micromanages and makes it impossible to actually take care of the families. You're instructed to place families on hold so you can finish entering notes into the system, no matter how irritated they might be getting. And they fuss at you for EVERYTHING. 2 minutes late back from lunch will earn you a verbal warning. Do it twice and its a written warning. Seriously. If you like being treated like a child who has no brains inside your head its the perfect job. If you actually have empathy and care about the families you should probably look elsewhere because this job will crush your soul.

    Advice to Management

quality over quantity is a phrase upper management needs to hear over and over. Yes, there are a lot of calls. But taking good care of people and not treating your employees like they're idiots will go a long way towards improving things.
Also, have someone read over the ENTIRE talking points for each school and make it flow better. Those things read like 6 different people have editing capabilities and no one bothered to make sure they weren't repeating the same mess over and over.

    Work from home options
    Some learning opportunities

    Low morale
    No long term vision
    No career development opportunities
    Disrespectful HR
     Poor leadership

I have been working at K12 full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Your everyday workers are wonderful. Great people, just getting worked to the bone because of cutbacks.

    Cons

There has been three rounds of layoffs in the last year. Then entire upper management has left and been replaced. The new management is completely focused on numbers and not the product. New course production has practically stopped. Some of the top talent has either willingly left or been let go creating a serious knowledge vacuum. From the inside looking out, it feels like we are in a downward spiral and we can't pull up.

    Advice to Management

You offer an online product that is only valuable if it continues to improve. Without a road map showing improvement, we are doomed to be replaced by someone who is willing to keep improving.

    I worked at K12 full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

    It's a job.
They also like to fill up the break rooms with really unhealthy food while outside is full of people who have no nicotine willpower, so if you wanna get sick, work here!

    Cons

Many reps violated federal student privacy laws (FERPA) in the guise of "training" rather than training correctly. Employees with real skills not given raises or advancement, and I witnessed someone get fired after they had a stroke. I also witnessed a disabled worker get fired, and they said she quit in a meeting.

There is no room for advancement, and strangers who will ask you to talk crap on your coworkers before you even know who they are.

    Advice to Management

Quit treating your workers so badly. HR, when a complaint is brought to you...

actually investigate it instead of taking sides with corporate.

Also... pay your freaking teachers better-- they are the lifeblood of the work and respond when CSMs ignore schools.
