I have been working at K12 as a contractor

    Pros

    jeans allowed, no micro mangement

    Cons

work like machines, everything is timed

    Advice to Management

Even though, we are contractors, need to respect us, and not just treat like trash. Hire managers and supervisor who have management skills, just do not pick them because they have been working here for a long time, and just give them the responsibility to supervise, you need to hire managers that have people skill

I have been working at K12 full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

The people are friendly and overtime is offered.

    Cons

Micro managed, no room to grow or opportunities for growth. Lots of favoritism lack of professionalism. They only care about numbers not people if you don't constantly dial you get reprimanded also if you sit idle you get reprimanded. It's a call center not a family support center. You have only so many minutes to help a family of you get reprimanded for call time. This place is a class action lawsuit waiting to happen. Management says the only way for possible promotion is special teams and there is nothing special about that team. Only that no one wants to be on it.

    Advice to Management

Care about your employees and families not numbers!!

I have been working at K12 full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Some very smart people passionate about education...but many of the best are leaving or being choked by choas

    Cons

As a longtime employee, it's hard to see that the company has lost so many great people, seems to lack a vision, and suffers from Management 101 failures. Senior executives are leaving, there is practically no communication about the strategy/vision/mission, lots of layoffs without explanation, etc.

    Advice to Management

People are confused, paranoid, and insecure. If you want to retain the good ones that are left, you are going to need to figure something out ASAP. We need to hear from the CEO more...and not a pre-recorded PR message. We don't know who is steering the ship or where we are going.

    I worked at K12 full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Work from home opportunities. Flexible hours available. For the most part good co-workers. Attempting to use Agile within the development organization.

    Cons

There used to be a real passion and mission from the senior leadership all the way down through the company, unfortunately, no longer the case. Lack of trust throughout the company and they wonder why their adoption of Agile is a failure. Too many people get promoted without merit, creating to many levels of management.

    Advice to Management

Trust your people and flatten the organization.

Company mission to support kids in finding the right education

    Cons

recent downsizing has lead to people working multiple jobs and, in some instances, outside of what they were hired to do. Extreme workloads lead to high attrition rates.

    I worked at K12 full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Great People that you work with, Great managers at the top.

    Cons

The great managers put absolute egocentric idiots to see over you and micromanage the hell out of you. Want you dialing every 90 seconds and if you are not you will be yelled at. Want you to stay and work all of these extra hours during busy season but you aren't compensated for it. There isn't a work to compensation balance.

    Advice to Management

There are many ways for a sales team to grow and the micromanaging everything they do is not one of them.

I worked at K12 (Less than a year)

    Pros

    None that I'm aware of.

    Cons

Probably the most disorganized company I've ever worked for. There are no org charts, procedures, processes and everything is done last minute.

The turnover rate is extremely high. There are no apparent leadership skills exhibited by management just expectations of what's needed.

    Advice to Management

Create structure in the company and guidance that can be followed. By not having any training, processes or procedures the employees are flailing not knowing what to do or how to perform their jobs.

The morale is exceedingly low, turnover exceedingly high and tenure in most positions is short. Management needs training to better support the employees and guide them as to what's needed and expected. Better communication is also needed so employees understand what goes on with the entire company, what the company does and how to further their careers.

    Pros

None There is nothing good about this company to talk about.

    Cons

If I could give a rating of zero, I would.

The work environment is very bland, the majority age range of this company is 40 and up. They pretend to be nice, but all they do is talk behind every employers back. Considering how old they are, I assume they'd be more professional about coworker relationships, but it felt like high school, cliques everywhere. A lot of sabotaging happening in this company.

    Advice to Management

Do not expect the lower level employers to work hard when all upper managements do is complain and dying to leave work early.

    I worked at K12 full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

The benefits are decent. I enjoyed my job. I enjoyed working with my co-workers. Extensive overtime was offered during the busy season.

    Cons

Unrealistic goals. Disrespect employees. Quantity was the main focus instead of quality. Did not provide employees with the tools necessary to complete the tasks required.

    Advice to Management

Bullying your employees is not effective management. Don't take a suggestion from an employee as them challenging your authority. If you are that insecure, you are not management material.

    Pros

Very interesting online learning platforms to work with. Made a lot of good contacts and friends.

    Cons

Company was not focused on students or employees. Executive management team as the school was ill-trained and unprepared for the level of responsibilities.

    Advice to Management

Change the metrics you are focused on and the company will turn around.
