I have been working at KB Home full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Regular introduction of innovative home building products and processes. Formal training processes in place for people that are new to the industry and seasoned professionals to keep their skills sharp. Sincere focus on customer satisfaction.

    Cons

Some key regional and corporate leaders are not easy to work with and act unprofessionally. High quality people are not retained because of this. Conversely, people have been promoted for being politically adept, even though absent of key skills (ex. basic algebra) or collegiate degrees.

    Advice to Management

Punishing or talking down to people on conference calls is not motivational. The company has taught me that people leave managers, not companies; that same lesson can be applied to fix the reasons why there is more turn over in President and key management roles in certain areas of the company than others.

    Cons

    Advice to Management

You guys should give better consumer service to the new home owners.

    Pros

Training is AMAZING. Management is supportive and has integrity. We make a LOT of money. We have amazing company parties. Sometimes these parties even include huge expensive cash prizes for the sales reps based on their performance. Sales reps can sleep in because offices open at 10am and 11am everyday. Some days are super busy, which nicely fly by. Other days are super quiet, and we use those days to get all our admin work done, meaning we have good balance so we don't get stressed out.

    Cons

Health benefits aren't great. Sales reps are required to work every Saturday and Sunday, meaning you're unable to spend time with your family on the weekends.

    Advice to Management

When sales results are low, micromanaging doesn't help. Instead, create a process for improvement by restructuring the sales process in the region itself. Micromanaging simply interrupts our workflow.

    Pros

Compared to other builders in town, KB doesn't spend a lot of time worrying about the guy next door. Focuses on what they do best and trying to maximize that.

    Cons

Fast pace and high expectations break everyone down at some point.

    Advice to Management

Don't sweat the small stuff with the team so often.

    Pros

Comfortable and stress free work environment. Enjoyed working and helping the customers find their perfect home. Easy to sell if you are a people person.

    Cons

It takes a while to get commissions coming in. You have to work every other Saturday and Sunday. Also, work daily until 7 PM which doesn't leave a lot of family time.
