I worked at KB Home (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Decent benefits, room to grow if you start there early in your career, and decent perks

    Cons

Management is not very wise a lot of times and jobs rely heavily on volatile real estate markets. Super corporate structure and good ol boys club feel

    Advice to Management

Listen to your employees and maybe try to learn about what they do and how they do it so that you can help them do their job more easily. Focus on retaining employees more.

    Pros

I liked that they were wiling to train you and help you succeed in your career. Even with no prior home building experience, I was promoted 3 times in 4 years.

    Cons

Not sure if this is really a con, but given the nature of the industry, 50-60 hour weeks were the norm. Had to put in long hours to get everything done.

    Advice to Management

    Keep up the hard work!

    Pros

Great pay and benefits. Very family friendly

    Cons

Major disconnect from the office to the people working in and running field opperations.

    Advice to Management

Take off your suit, get out of your comfy chair, make a different persona, go out into thw field as a "new hire" and see just how hard the trade base makes the construction of new homes. Try and actually try and relate to the field opperations without your name everyone knows and your "title"

    Pros

As a sales agent at KB home you do learn about the new homes sales industry from the KB home way of doing business. Youlearn some ideas on how to network and expand your business. Benefits are ok, with medical and a 401K.

    Cons

You income is dictated by your sales manager. You have a small handful of other employee that have master the game of always getting the prime community locations, or the new communities. Working hard and going the extra mile for the company is never recognized. Seniority is key to get into the better selling communities. Regardless of your sales performance. To have seniority you need to be have at least 10 years. So matter how hard you work or sell you need to wait.

    Advice to Management

Stop dictating people's income. Give others the opportunity to shine and proves themselves. Just because you work in the sales position for 10,15 years or even live the same community your selling in. KB should give everyone a fair chance to earn an income. Rotate the sales people. You have the same 3 people in the same key communities. Like in Inspirada.
