    I worked at KBI Biopharma

    Pros

A lot of great co-workers who are team players and work hard. They made work fun and enjoyable.

    Cons

The company is poorly run and highly disorganized. Management is not proactive and often unresponsive to situations brought to their attention.

    Positive Outlook

I have been working at KBI Biopharma full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Business is good. HR says there will be opportunities with an expanding company. KBI was recently purchased so job stability is up as well.

    Cons

Very poor communication between groups. Managers are focused on work not employee development. Once you are in everything takes time and your performance means little.

    Advice to Management

Need a real training program. Company says the right things but execution is not there. Talk about promoting from within but they have preferred to hire others instead.

I have been working at KBI Biopharma full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Opportunities to work on a variety of techniques and lots of training provided. Opportunity for growth and learning about the industry. Opportunities to write protocols or reports. The company seems stable and growing.

    Cons

The Durham site is in a bad neighborhood. No easy commute and no safe place to live nearby. The building is uncomfortable. The labs are disorganized – expect to spend much of your day searching for supplies and a place to work. While there are women in group leader roles, there are few women in some groups, and the culture is male dominated. The supervisors are on one floor, and the analysts are on another so... communication with your supervisor is usually by phone or email.

I have been working at KBI Biopharma full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

-Flexible Hours -lots of opportunities to learn

    Cons

-Management consists of scienctists that were never trained to manage people -The company has taken on too much too fast and now puts the burden on the lower level analysts to meet deadlines with little to no support -A once small company that is stuck in the middle of a start-up and big pharma company mentality unable to pick a side

    Advice to Management

-Support your analysts and push back on client demands -hold other departments accountable

I have been working at KBI Biopharma full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

    Pay is above other companies.

    Cons

Management is controlled by directors with no people skills. They often belittle and treat associates disrespectfully and unprofessionally. Because of the high pay, employees tolerate the behaviors. Upper management and HR knowingly allow this. Only care about the business side. Long overdue for cultural changes.

I have been working at KBI Biopharma full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Salary Opportunity for advancement if you are okay working 60 hr weeks or learn which people to suck up to.

    Cons

It's an unneccesarily disorganized mess. Everything takes twice as long as necessary, and equipment is often not working or available when you need it. Poor business development decisions by nonscientists lead to awful and stressful situations for the "lowly" analysts who do the work. No training program... Sink or swim and pray you are doing things correctly. High turnover. Double standards and favoritism... abounds. The distribution of projects is not equal between groups, so you have some analysts who spend time on Facebook and take 2 hour lunches, and some analysts who are crying in the bathroom and being told they have to work weekends.

    Advice to Management

Pay attention to more than just revenue and at least pretend like you care about your employees wellbeing. The level of disorganization creates so much work and stress and could be completely avoided. The company is big enough to start developing formal training programs: learning on the fly leads to way more problems than any costs saved by not having formal training.

I have been working at KBI Biopharma full-time

    Pros

    - Good Pay - Some nice people who are trying to do the right thing and work to the best of their abilities

    Cons

    - No work-life balance (numerous employees have this complaint) - Highly disorganized - High turnover - No proper/organized training (sink or swim culture) - Talented employees being under-utilized, while unskilled and sneaky employees are continuously promoted - Management does not take responsibility or hold their employees accountable - Constantly taking on projects with not enough man-power to handle... it - Poor planning in all aspects

    Advice to Management

Please take into consideration of why this place has a high turnover rate. KBI has so much potential and you're losing a lot of good people because you refuse to invest in your employees. Stop playing the blame game and take a serious look of why things are turning out the way they are. KBI runs on poor planning and being the fastest does not make you the best. Place more emphasis on quality instead of quantity and... listen to your employees when they express their ideas and concerns.

I worked at KBI Biopharma full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Individually everyone there tries their best to keep up with the crazy schedule. What is done is pretty amazing given the lack of formality often need for the work.

    Cons

Change is necessary. How it was implemented was very unprofessional. It was unfortunate to feel that I needed to leave as I did believe the company was trying to get to the same goal. Only if they got out of their own way....

    Advice to Management

Be realistic about schedules and staff capability. Formalize a training program and be more diligent regarding performance reviews.

I worked at KBI Biopharma full-time for more than a year

    Pros

It is a paycheck and that is about it.

    Cons

The place is a blame game. Only a few work, but lots take credit. If you talk the talk you can advance, even without experience. Big testosterone party, women are limited in certain departments and don't seem to have the same opportunities to advance. They are trying to move faster than they are setup to run. Like trying to run a marathon when your training is only a two mile course.

    Advice to Management

Stop, plan, then act. Your patch up job is going to catch up with you

    Negative Outlook

I have been working at KBI Biopharma

    Pros

Some of the people I interact with are great and are trying to do the right thing.

    Cons

-There is a lot of turnover here, likely due to the lack of opportunity, promotions and benefits -Work hours are long with no outlook for improvement due to not having enough personnel versus the current workload -Responsiblity and accountability don't exist and the roles and responsibilities of work groups are blurred

    Advice to Management

The mentality is that of, 'Lets just do enough to get by' which has never worked. The issues are very clear. Fix them be removing the people and processes that are not helpful.
