    Pros

Easy introduction to team, thorough top level introduction to project architecture, direct access to entire code base. Management gives complete presentation of team goals. Code base is in relatively good condition. Quality of computer capability well above average.

    Cons

No written records of design requirements or response available only study of base code is possible creating schedule delays. Former personnel may not be interviewed for their understanding. There is no written schedule and archaic technology is preserved at the cost to progress even if it damages the goals of the department.

    Advice to Management

Modernization must be supported even if middle management must be forced to learn new technologies or the company's competitive edge will be lost. This support must come from the VP of engineering level or middle management will sacrifice all for their comfort.

I have been working at KLA-Tencor full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Top notch employees/coworkers, great company values, great development training from the Corporate Learning Center, HR business partners who actually care about you, lots of opportunity to learn new things and make your job more efficient, good gym, flexible work hours (make it to meetings, get your job done, and you can shift your hours as needed to accommodate kid activities when needed, etc.)

    Cons

We are being acquired and not everyone is taking it well, even if their jobs are known to be fairly secure; the current climate can be a little political because of that. Big raises are hard to come by; they are probably harder to come by in the current climate. So if you come to work here, make sure you negotiate good starting pay.

    Advice to Management

With some of the org changes, many employees were put into roles they didn't choose, working for managers they didn't apply to. Listen to what they want to do in the future and find a path for them to get there (even if it's a longer-term one) so they don't feel ignored and can focus on their current jobs. If employees feel like K-T will help them get where they want to go in the future if they work hard now, they can stop stressing about the future and focus more on what's needed today.

    Pros

KT is a company with an internship program rated as one of the best in the Bay Area and my experience definitely echoed that!

    Cons

Demographics were a lot older than what a New College Graduate would be looking for in Silicon Valley.

    Advice to Management

    Hire younger

I have been working at KLA-Tencor full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

    Good pay, somewhat flexible hours

    Cons

culture is very dry, not a fun place to work. Very work oriented, not people oriented. Merger happening soon so everyone is trying to help themselves not others

    Advice to Management

Encourage a more personable atmosphere. Train lower managers on how to be a good manager. Many managers are not able to teach their employees how to do the job because they have too little time.

    I worked at KLA-Tencor full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The Corporate Learning Center (CLC) is a luxury that no other company has. The members of the CLC are the wisest people whom you not only want to work with, but you can take life lessons from. The executive team had some tough decisions, but they were transparent with their employees and respectful of all of us overall.

    Cons

KLA Tencor will be "no more" come this summer. LAM Research is lucky to have them.

    Advice to Management

Write some books for other companies to learn from!
