Worked at KLA Tencor for 26 years.

    Pros

Had the opportunity to live in Ireland for a year with my family while working there. Lots of great benefits. KLA Tencor gave me the opportunity to become a site manager as well as working in the field on tools for maintenance.

    Cons

Ups and downs with job security, depended on how the economy was doing

Credit goes to talkers. Performance review only depends on relationship to the manager

    Pros

Good company history. Pay average though very slow growth. Follow the laws. Smart engineering people. People in application team or system team get good visibility.

    Cons

Very political, same as some other people said, no management, only co-ordinates. Brilliant people without strong connections try to hide their talent to avoid being targets. Almost no regular career path for average engineers. Poor project management but no one pays for it. The who generate more bugs get more credit as the bug list shows they are busy, sometimes in order to show they are working they even delay the fixes. The team worked well only in down-turn as bushitting was not allowed. In up-turn, the managers hire more than enough but without much team performance improvement. A lot of email and meeting tricks. Some people grab other people's rights of speaking. Arbitrary performance review depending on only the relationship to the manager. No peer review, fake upstream review, and useless company wide chat board as people dare not to speak the truth. Most managers are good at creating PPT, translating the words, information control(avoiding engineers to know essential information), and getting credits. Cheap patent awards. Creative ideas not encouraged if without manager's involvement. Bad IT support. Many times after the IT team install something, your PC gets extremely slow.

Great place to work. Compared to what, a penal colony?

Jan 8, 2009 - Senior Software Engineer in Milpitas, CA

    Pros

I was an engineer for several years. Most of my colleagues were very intelligent and experienced; a pleasure to work with. The technology was cutting edge and I learned a great deal and was able to contribute a great deal as well.

    Cons

Endemic back-stabbing, lying, favoritism, and incompetence among the management at all levels. If you were lucky you might get a courageous person as your immediate manager who could shield you from his dictatorial and out-of-touch-with-reality superiors. If you were unlucky such a person would be your boss. Lots of turnover. The best people I knew have already left or been forced out.

    Pros

Top management has good business direction to keep company keeps going and remains competitive in future

    Cons

Local senior manager likes to play trick and politics to strengthen his own survive. Too long time in same position and same product would be easier to play presentation trick. Small group owned people management style just like many other old-brand companies.

    Do not join this company

    Jul 24, 2021 - Applications Engineer

    Pros

    1. Company's earning has been strong for recent years, and stock performance is impressing. 2. Most colleagues are technically strong and friendly.

    Cons

    1. Manager is horrible and good at micro management. He has been extremely rude to his subordinates since he became manager. 2. Employees were forced to travel during pandemic. If you express concern about travelling, manager would find many ways to make your life hard. 3. Upper management was competiting with each other on how many employees were on site during pandemic. So even during the worst time of pandemic, employees were forced to be onsite for no reason.
