I have been working at KOBELCO full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Some employee appreciation events are nice

    Cons

Noone in the HR Department knows how to solve hostile work environment in timely manner. It's just sucks they are too busy chatting and gossiping around that there is no sense of urgency for the harassment claim. The Expats should go back to the home country since most of them are just causing problems and can't even supervise their staffs

    Advice to Management

Educate Expats before sending them here

I worked at KOBELCO full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Job Security is better than most.

    Cons

My biggest complaint is the hostile work environment in the Houston Sales Office. It is very depressing and most visitors quickly agree however no one in management or even HR have made any attempts to improve the situation. As a result approximately 6 Sales Engineers have quit in the past 2 years and the sales team consists of only 6 individuals.

Outside of the hostile work environment in the sales office, salaries are much lower than industry average, benefits are not very good, and you will be micro-managed far beyond typical sales positions. They installed a camera in the corner of the room to monitor attendance because management expects sales people to be in the office all day. They told people it was for security but the Houston sales office is on the 41st floor of a high rise building that already has security and there is no history of break-ins.

Also, sales commissions are paid out once per year even though the company gets paid shortly after the project is awarded. It is completely unfair especially since the sales people put so much effort into the sales effort.

    Advice to Management

1.) Allow sales people more flexibility to work out of office.
2.) Try to retain your sales people instead of just letting them go.
    3.) Pay out commissions sooner.

I have been working at KOBELCO full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Descent benefits, Management is very flexible with time off requests, the pay rate and incentives are descent.

    Cons

No room for growth, crushed moral from superiors thus affecting work environment & work itself. Cannot speak freely to management.

    Advice to Management

Great potential is overlooked spend more time looking at the work your employees accomplish, stop by once in a while. Coach your employees up an out. Overlook personal preference, do not let this blind you from overlooking talent. Don't humiliate your employees in front of others this will cause a crushed moral and other departments will lose respect for that employee thus affecting management in the long run.

    I worked at KOBELCO full-time

    Pros

None, avoid this place like the plague

    Cons

People who have less experience and responsibilities will get paid more than you. The amount of time you've worked there means nothing. KOBELCO will do whatever it takes to please customers even if it means taking huge losses

    Advice to Management

Pay your employees more. Create a better work environment and hire people who actually know what they're doing, not just those who are desperate for a job
