I worked at KOBELCO full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

My compensation was good. Pay is really based on performance and experience. Whoever contributing more gets paid more and promoted quickly

    Cons

people who joined after M&A in 2010 tend to be talented. People who've been working for more than 10 yrs seem incapable for many duties but getting promotion due to seniority

    Advice to Management

Half of management memebers in project engineering is too weak. Most of them are those who have been working there for too long.

    Pros

    - Very unique and interesting technology

    Cons

    - Current management will constantly take losses to please customers
    - Company will change your job duties/ position whenever they feel like it
    - There is absolutely no room to grow and management will do everything in their power to hold you back

    I worked at KOBELCO full-time

    Pros

    - A LOT of experience attained in a short amount of time.
    - When the industry is in a favorable time, you will never be bored on day-to-day basis.

    Cons

    - A health work/life balance is not supported or actively encouraged.
    - Project Engineering department is not supported well by direct management.
    - Communication and professional respect is highly lacking between engineering and production teams.
    - Philosophy of "pointing fingers" is prominent among management, and is carried down to individual departments. Accountability and responsibility for decisions made is lacking.
    - Management team is created by who has been there the longest, not by assessing who can successfully carry out a project and gain the respect from employees, customers, and vendors.
    - Pay is not sufficient for amount of work expected.

    Advice to Management

Reach out to employees and welcome a true open-door policy about communication, and not only by saying the words required to do so, but also creating an environment in which approachability and comfort is welcomed. Listen to employee complaints/comments and work to remedy them. Let employees know, without a doubt, that you support them.

I worked at KOBELCO (Less than a year)

    Pros

Friendly, helpful coworkers and work environment. Annual raises and bonuses. Good place to gain experience and connections with customers and vendors.

    Cons

High workload at some positions with long hours expected. Criteria for promotions can be erratic with focus on certain metrics. Supervisors often too busy to provide much guidance. Reliance on older software & methods creates a lot of busywork.

    Advice to Management

Invest in proper database and automation of repetitive paperwork.

    Pros

Very fair, good benefits, good culture. Calm approach to any problems and focused.

    Cons

Some managers have been in their position too long and lack the experience and tools used in other industries today. Metrics should be in place to measure not only orders and $ but on-time delivery, quality and customer satisfaction. Hold those stakeholders accountable to improve.

    Advice to Management

    Use more measurements.
