I have been working at KPMG full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

you get to learn a lot, which is great. a lot of different opportunities, almost never doing the same thing

    Cons

you learn a lot by someone just throw you into a mess.
a lot of differently opportunity if you know how to kiss rear ends and network your way up.
never doing the same thing means you never get to become an expert on one area.
SUPER cut throat. and no one cares much about you. Very cold

    Advice to Management

cut the hierarchy out. stop the "network" thing, you hired me, you should know what i am good at, without selling my skill at those happy hours events!

I have been working at KPMG full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Great benefits package, a lot of career opportunities

    Cons

No such thing as a work-life balance
Firm culture is a lot more hyped up than it actually is

    Pros

The ability to grow within the company is excellent, if you commit and drink the "kool-aid".

    Cons

Working for a BPG group is disorganized and the work delivered is often subjected to ensuring that the client will purchase ongoing services.

    Advice to Management

Pay more attention to sales practices of BPG.

I worked at KPMG full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Great place to work overall and you meet some great people.

    Cons

One person can determine your employment no matter how well you work. If you speak up about the wrong person or one that is in the know. DO NOT USE "ETHIC AND COMPLIANCE HOTLINE" IT IS NOT CONFIDENTIAL. You will quickly be severance paid out of a job. Totally unfair practices.

    Advice to Management

Don't let one person with personal issues determine someone else's future. Do the research behind the issues and get to the bottom of the real problem. Otherwise you will have a lot of people complain about a great company's employee practices that put good people out of jobs.

I have been working at KPMG full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    Great People
    Great Culture
Summers are a breeze! Happy hours and work remotely all the time

    Cons

Busy seasons can be up to six months 60+ hour weeks
    Poor work life balance
    Pay could be alot better

    Advice to Management

Increase pay or give more incentives. Plan better for busy seasons so employees dont have to work 80 hours a week or more, planning is everything.

I have been working at KPMG full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    -Corporate Opportunities
-Lots of younger new hires, not just all old guys
    -Learning Experience
    -Great network
    -Great training

    Cons

    -No work life balance
    -Very little flexibility
    -High turnover
-A lot of people who are unsatisfied with their jobs
    -Long hours

    Advice to Management

I would advise management to value their associates and recognize them more as human beings instead of robots. The company could be a great place to work if it was easier for unhappy workers to move into different roles that better suited their needs.

I worked at KPMG (More than a year)

    Pros

Good place to start a career as you get exposure to a wide variety of clients in various industries. There is a formal training for all employees at all levels once a year and my colleagues were a great resource to learn from.

    Cons

There is little work life balance as you are on constant deadlines. The work is challenging because you generally have very little time to gain an understanding of a client before you arrive on site.

    Advice to Management

Continue to listen to all levels of your employees at all levels. Sometimes things are not so apparent as an associate as they are as a manager or a senior.

    Negative Outlook

I have been working at KPMG part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

You can get good work experience working here that looks great on a resume. Can allow promotion potential if you decide to leave someday.

    Cons

They work you hardcore for a meager salary. You can get more working somewhere else by working less time.

    Advice to Management

Improving working conditions would help out workers a lot. The hours can get quite tedious. KPMG is making nice changes in Europe.

    Positive Outlook

    Pros

Intense commitment to training and development opportunities. Access to top tier clients with a moderate level of strategic projects. Great senior associate retention bonus. Smart and driven peers.

    Cons

Increasingly transactional and implementation driven projects. Many of directors and partners were strong individual contributors but have little understanding of effective management. Travel for the sake of travel as opposed to needs-driven. Work-life balance and flexibility is touted as a major focus point, but not yet practiced at the top.

    Advice to Management

Invest in leadership and development initiatives for anyone rising through the ranks to eventually become a director or above. Understand the difference between a strong analyst and a strategic mindset (technical capabilities vs. vision to drive logical and data-driven decisions)

I have been working at KPMG full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Good brand name, OK pay, OK benefits, you get what you sign up for - big complex company.

    Cons

Advisory projects tend to be administrative by nature with very little intellectual challenge. Many roles, especially staff ones, amount to no more than note taking. This is not "high consulting" where outcomes are reached based on analysis and deep expertise but more of a facilitation and project management shop.

Due to the matrix structure performance evaluation is rarely direct and relies on many second hand sources. This results in a game of "managing perceptions" where individuals are rewarded or penalized with little correlation to their skills or real achievements. Politics play a major role.
