    Pros

Vacation pay if you can make it through busy season.

    Cons

    Advice to Management

Fire yourselves and bring on decent people who have some caring for human beings.

I have been working at KPMG full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    1. Good work experience
    2. Opportunity to work with a lot of people

    Cons

    1. Your experience generally depends on the seniors you're assigned to. Bad team = bad experience.
    2. Long busy season. Personally, my busy season lasted more than 5 consecutive months. I forgot what it was like to be home before dark.

    Advice to Management

    1. Be more involved with your staff
    2. If seniors are yelling at your associates, talk with not only the seniors but the associates as well. Yelling should never be allowed in any work environment.
    3. Ensure new employees receive timely counseling, not 2 months after an engagement has ended. By this time, the advice is obsolete.

I have been working at KPMG full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Despite being the runt of the Big 4, you still get access to industry behemoths, great learning resources, and name recognition that can open plenty of doors. The Big 4 are pretty much the same in the incestual world that accounting / consulting is in, but KPMG attracts a good combination of bright individuals and scrappy state school kids - at least in Advisory. It's a good combination of interacting with some brilliant people and hard working professionals.

Compensation is adequate. The salary is competitive and the 5 weeks of PTO (with it rolling over in CA) is great! Work-life balance is decent. You work hard and have some unpredictable hours, but if an event is important to you, you will most likely be able to make it.

Overall, a great learning opportunity to start a career and learn a good foundation of accounting / financial analysis that can be used to transition elsewhere if desired. Not much incentive to stay longer unless you truly love the work and want to realize the pension / 401k benefits, but with the Bay Area offering so much opportunity, Big 4 doesn't seem to entice that many to stay long.

    Cons

Compared to other Big 4, KPMG lacks in some benefits, especially health-related perks. The company is well aware that it does not want to be a industry leader in this and instead shows that it offers better 401k and retirement options. Great if you want to be a lifer, not so great if you are planning an exit before year 3 or 4.

The culture in Advisory is something that doesn't inspire you to say longer than 2 years. Nothing really shows you that Directors and Partners care about you or your career aspirations. Managers and Directors that are social and awesome almost always have a foot out the door, leaving the mundane, less people-oriented leadership in place. But this is the Big 4, so turnover is high - especially in the Bay Area.

    Advice to Management

Try to realize that you need a mix of good accountants and good leaders in the Director roles. Also, expense policies should really be relaxed on some aspects. If we are working investment banking hours or have to miss plans, expensing a coffee or snack shouldn't be pushed back. Consulting / Accounting will never rival Tech, but try to keep your employees somewhat happy when they are cranking.

    Pros

People are really nice. Mentoring from women is not quite as helpful as the men.

    Cons

Long hours leads to weight gain, and lack of life balance.

    Advice to Management

Create teams based on learning styles.

I worked at KPMG full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The company does have very decent benefits. They also give some modest but nice gifts - e.g., a welcome gift for new hires and an annual summer gift of food (Omaha Steaks meat or ice cream bars). They also shut down for about 10 days at the end of the year, which is great!

    Cons

VERY white male. Very poor treatment and promotion of women. Not welcoming of minorities. No innovation whatsoever. No true desire or ability to move away from risk in favor of strategy or management consulting.

    Advice to Management

You really need more diversity in your leadership! You should also look more closely at the appropriateness of the behavior of men in leadership positions.

I worked at KPMG full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Collaborative culture, close-knit, working on a variety of services as well as internal projects with many different team like-minded members

    Cons

In the bay area, where you may be primarily located and be forming your professional relationships, there is not much travel but it may change based on the type of job delegated.

    Advice to Management

More close-knit culture needs to be harnessed. Small team with not much bonding. People are great but aren't always together and thinking about how to maintain relationships.
