I have been working at KPMG full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

I've worked in 2 offices -- both have amazing people (for the most part) and KPMG offers great benefits, particularly vacation/PTO. My teams have felt more like family/very close friends overall. Exposure to a variety of clients and their issues.

    Cons

As an Associate and now a Sr Associate, you sometimes work very long hours -- at times, it can be very trying. Your life completely halts during busy times and you should sometimes expect having little to no time to even do your laundry or get decent sleep. During busy times, expect to work weekends as well. Not an exaggeration. I feel very overworked & underpaid, overall.

I have been working at KPMG full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

    - Management is flexible to accommodate PTO requests and other personal obligations/appointments/emergencies
    - Predictable schedule which helps with personal life planning
    - Pay is solid and promotion process is predictable

    Cons

    - Risk management (particularly audit relationships) limits the types of engagements the organization is able to pursue
    - Pay could be more competitive to other large consultants in the the DC area and nationally

    Advice to Management

    - Raise recruiting standards for campus hiring
    - Pursue engagements that fit our staff's skills, education and experience
    - Stop trying to turn our CPAs into data analytics staff

I worked at KPMG (More than a year)

    Pros

Obviously great place to start a career. Depends highly on the exact projects you work on, though.

    Cons

Long hours, blah blah, you know by now.

    Advice to Management

    Keep on living the dream.

I have been working at KPMG as an intern (Less than a year)

    Pros

I was an intern in the DC office in the federal audit practice. Kpmg has the largest market share of federal agency audits so if you are interested in federal government audits and financial management then it is the right firm for you. I had a great experience helping with the audits of several federal agencies in DC

    Cons

Huge firm so you will not get to meet every partner, employee, and intern during your time here. If that is important to you. But there are lots of firmwide and intern specific Social events for you to network at

    Advice to Management

Coordinate intern's assigned clients based on their geographic location compared to where the intern is staying

One manager can screw you over

    Advice to Management

Don't let managers tell lies to ruin someone else's career. its not a good look for kpmg

I have been working at KPMG as an intern (Less than a year)

    Pros

-Work with a variety of interns
-Can be a great experience if you MAKE it one

    Cons

-CMI internship just for minorities it pays less and the interns only do "administrative" tasks NOT client service work

    Advice to Management

Let CMI interns know exactly what they will be doing. Also, CMIs are more than capable of doing the work that the "regular" interns do

    Pros

looks good on a resume. 5 weeks of PTO when you start. easy track to promotion

    Cons

long hours, working over holidays, inability to utilize 5 weeks of vacation, paid at below market rates. engagements are always understaffed.

    Advice to Management

pay senior associates more if you want them to stay, do a better job of staffing engagements
