I have been working at Kahala full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Free ice cream Nice facilities Large, private cubes and offices Team-like environment Great pay and benefits

    Cons

Lots of brands - lots of different things going on so it’s sometimes hard to remember all the different vendors, POS systems, suppliers, etc.

    Advice to Management

Don’t listen to the Glassdoor reviews from salty, delusional ex-employees... you’re doing a great job.

I worked at Kahala full-time for more than 3 years

      Pros

Gym on site Convenient location Decent healthcare

      Cons

Nepotism Lack of leadership No true career path unless nepotism works in your favor Dying brands Lack of culture compared to competitors

      Advice to Management

Step down and let someone more readily willing, able, and prepared to step up to the challenges of reversing your dying portfolio of brands in. Nepotism will only work for so long - you’ve lost a lot of great employees in recent years and they would’ve stayed if management wasn’t so oblivious to what is going on day-to-day.

I have been working at Kahala full-time

      Pros

      - Upper management cares - No matter what your "rank" is in the company, all thoughts and ideas are heard and taken seriously - Dress is casual - Everyone cares about the work they do - Coworkers are kind to one another

      Cons

      - It can be a bit cold in the office, but that's about it

      Advice to Management

Continue to foster your employees because it is truly making a difference!

I worked at Kahala full-time (Less than a year)

      Pros

Free ice cream, gym on site, excellent health care and 401k plan (sorta). Great, talented people at the peer level.

      Cons

Where do I start? This is a company that's operating in the dark ages of a changing digital world. They still cling to paper accounting and print advertising. People are put into influential positions without any real experience or background to make informed decisions on policy or procedure and in fact, many current employees have been there for several years because they lack the capability to work anywhere else. They...

      Advice to Management

Gain some sort of emotional intelligence and be smart enough to think about the long term instead of the short immediate gain. Open your eyes and see who's doing the real work. Just because that person CC's you on an email doesn't mean they contributed to a project in a meaningful way. VPs: Don't hire your friends or children of your friends. Look within and LISTEN to ALL your people. Stop patting yourselves on the...

I worked at Kahala full-time for more than a year

      Pros

The job itself was easy Flexible schedule Gym in the building Lots of free food Decent coworkers

      Cons

Every day was monotonous. Lack of clear direction from the top down - goals were never made clear, therefore performance reviews were not clear. It's hard to know if you're doing a good job when it's not clear what the job is. Often felt like they wanted you to turn lemons into lemonade, but the problem is they didn't even give you lemons to start with. They often hire from the outside instead of promoting from within...

      Advice to Management

Set very specific goals for the company and each of its brands, not just "how many brands can we acquire this year" and make those goals clear to their respective teams. Then hold all directors, managers and team members responsible for doing their best to achieve those goals. Also, employees need incentives. Make Kahala a fun place to work, not a prison where time moves backwards.

      "Corporate atmosphere"

      StarStarStarStarStar
Former Employee - Director of Warehouse Operations in Phoenix, AZ

        I worked at Kahala

        Pros

Company had a family atmosphere for its employees and was passionate about all aspects of the business and its growth.

        Cons

Due to growing pains employees were required to cover every area of expansion in addition to defined positions within the company. However, in the long run, this was a great learning experience

I have been working at Kahala for more than 19 years

        Pros

A well structured, yet laid back environment. Most employees take pride in the job that they perform. Flexible hours Open communication with upper management

        Cons

The company throws good money to bring in outside talent, when they would be better off promoting from within. When promotions do occur management does not offer compensation that matches the community standards. Working long hours and being loyal does not translate monetarily

        Advice to Management

Realize the talent that you have within the company and reward those who go over and above what is expected of them.
