I worked at Kaiser Permanente as a contractor (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Best insurance and benefits and pay in the industry!

    Cons

Horrible upper management, HORRIBLE union representation, terrible working conditions. Pay raises are 2% while cost of living is going up 6%. Schedules are all over the place... work late one night then have to turn around 8 hours later and be back at work. Since the affordable care act it's become a numbers game and all they care about are wait times as opposed to giving great patient care.

    Advice to Management

Start valuation games people again, treat your employees like they matter and they are part of the family and they will work their butts off for you... instead of robbing you blind by slacking wherever they can, and justifying bad behaviors.

    Pros

Great benefits. The benefits are great and with low co-pays for complete service. Beware though because you might need to doctor shop to get quality care.

    Cons

Their management team and philosophy is in serious need for adjustments. They keep people in management positions that have no business being a leader or manager and drive good employees away.

    Advice to Management

Be more transparent and ensure you treat everyone equally and respectfully. If you cant hold people accountable equally and you can't keep personal employee information you have no business being in management.

I worked at Kaiser Permanente full-time

    Pros

Kaiser covers all that patients need. They are pro health as any hospital should be, but they take it to the nth degree!

    Cons

Kaiser treats their employees as if they were all part of their framework but don't give them the unique help they may need to catch up with the expectations.

    Advice to Management

Try looking at your middle management more closely. Make sure that what is communicated to the middle mgt is what is told to the employees!

I worked at Kaiser Permanente as a contractor (Less than a year)

    Pros

Very fair employment practices with great diversity and age ranges - they value their employees (temp, contact or full-time) and invest in them. Focus is on patient health and safety. Constantly improving processes, and looking ahead to see what can be done with limited resources. Warm, friendly, appreciative staff. Most employees appreciate their KP jobs, and work hard. They hire people > 50, 55 or 60 because good work is good work - why not have that stellar employee for a couple of years? They often try to hire temp/contract on, and recommend from within frequently to make that happen.

    Cons

Low budgets so many temp/contract as a fix. Sometimes union vs. non-union rules get in the way of actually doing the right thing. Technology challenges are common.

    Advice to Management

Keep looking ahead and communicating your vision to everyone. Positive, transparent management practices work, and you know it.

    Pros

Kaiser has great benefits and pay rates. There are opportunities to move within the companies.

    Cons

Some of the management is horrible depending on where you are. They are and allow others to be bullies, have favorites and treat others with disrespect.

    Advice to Management

Upper management needs to round on the staff more to know what is going on and to fix any morale issues.
