I have been working at Kalitta Air full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Kalitta Air is SO good to their employees! It's a family feel, and the employees are valued and appreciated more than ANY Company or Organization I have ever worked for. I love my job, my company, my family of co-workers.

The benefits with Kalitta Air are absolutely AMAZING!

    Cons

24/7 shifts but I understand the need for them.

    Pros

You can learn a lot, quickly if you put your mind to it. Overtime is seemingly always available to those that want it. The fleet is growing and improvements are being made, although slowly.

    Cons

Pay is well under industry standard, but decent for the area. Tooling is a joke. FOD prevention is an ideal that is pushed, but no actual practice to accomplish it. Accepted practices and company morals seem to fall into a gray area more often than not.

    Advice to Management

"the way we've always done it" is not the end-all-be-all. Manual instructions for tooling required are not merely suggestions. Instead of buying more planes in droves, get the tooling we've been lacking for years to make sure we can maintain the aircraft we have now in a safe and legal manner.

I have been working at Kalitta Air full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

It's still a relatively smaller company, that has more of a family feel to it. They have a great insurance program that is a much lower cost to the employee than most regional offer their employees. They have great life insurance and disability programs long and short term. While working here you will learn a lot especially on how to operate lean.

    Cons

The company has grown much in the last few years, but still wants to run lean with many of the same staff levels they were utilizing when they operated half as many routes or aircraft. Culture of yes men, when you do identify faults in their structure. policies you are treated as a problem causer. Even when you point out industry wide solutions to remedy. As a mechanic expect to work lots of overtime, low pay. Their pay is much lower than other airlines. They have some great mechanics and other staff to learn from, but they also have lots of people who are still stuck in the old get'er done by any means mentality, that don't get the things they used to do on other aircraft types are not legal repairs or substituions on other aircraft types.

    Advice to Management

Listen more to lower level employees and lower to middle level management.

I worked at Kalitta Air full-time

    Pros

    Great health insurance
Flexible hours with ability to trade/swap
Ability to move around the company after a year

    Cons

Drama, in-fighitng amongst coworkers but ive found that to be case just about anywhere
Special exceptions are made for employee mistakes, not every employee is held to the same standard but thats typical corporate bs

I have been working at Kalitta Air full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

A relaxed culture with plenty of room to learn on your own. It is a good place to start and learn about Boeing wide-bodies if you desire to learn. Pay is decent for the area.

    Cons

Winters are cold and with a flightline that is out in the open it can be a little painful at work sometimes. Management seems out of touch with good planning practices. If you want to learn and grow you must put forth the effort to ensure your advancement.

    Advice to Management

Vet new people for proper experience or aptitude better, and recognize formal training and experience in promotion considerations.

I have been working at Kalitta Air full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

    Health insurance is fairly inexpensive
Some departments are with modern times and like to have fun.

    Cons

Company is still ran like a small, private company.
People that complain the most (former chief pilot, for example) get everything handed to them while others suffer.
Several departments suffer due to lack of staffing, severely aged equipment, or inept employees that management/higher ups protect.
Special exceptions for said employees that don't have to follow rules or do what they want regardless when told no.

I have been working at Kalitta Air full-time

    Pros

-The area can be nice in the summer
-The pay is decent for the area you live in
-You can get some experience on different types of aircraft

    Cons

    -Overtime is mandatory and constant
    - Your name is more important than your work ethic
-There is not enough equipment for the amount of aircraft they work at a time.
    - You are on their schedule with no notice to change
-There is no communication or organization between management

    Advice to Management

Have realistic expectations for the amount of work your employees can get done in the the time frame you give them and with the equipment they have to work with. Give your people breaks and time off, it will improve morale.
