I worked at Kampgrounds of America full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Easy registration system. Working with a variety of people and personalities, Loved the campers and listening to their stories. Loved the atmosphere.

    Cons

Franchises, Difference in owners, some will trust you know what your doing and others Will micromanage you to death, Only wanting you there to handle the dirty work while they take all the glory. Hiring good employees and not have the authority to pay them what they are worth. Living on site equated to be on duty 24/7 to campers and employee's alike. Would be a Work Kamper but not go back into managing

    Advice to Management

More advice to franchise owners: We were constantly told to keep employee salaries low. Owners need to understand happy employees make their campground. They need to pay them well and give them the hours.

I have been working at Kampgrounds of America part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Meeting so many unique tourists! Meeting other work-campers from across the country. Working at a campground is fun in general.

    Cons

Low pay rate. Complicated computer system. Supervisor or Assistant Manager positions do not offer much of anything-or at least not at the koa I worked at.

    Advice to Management

Higher pay. Supervisors an Assistant Managers do not want to only do inventory. We want to learn "management" responsibilities. Let us help you more with your responsibilities!

    Pros

The owner is hard working. He is in and out of the office throughout the day seven days a week. However, he is only there to help and answer any questions that might arise throughout the day. We rarely have to take a day off but when we do he figures out a way to make it work.

    Cons

Living at the RV park it is impossible to choose your neighbors. Sometimes they are not the greatest.

    Advice to Management

    Keep up the good work.

I worked at Kampgrounds of America part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

The ONLY reasons to be here is the location and the weather

    Cons

Very busy campground and not enough employees. Workers are not appreciated. Told you ar going to make$8.00 an hour but, only get $7.75. If you complain about ANYTHING you are ignored and told to leave if you don't like it . You get paid for hours that you are scheduled but, expected to "volunteer" many hours a week doing activities. Management is a bully to all. Talks down to everyone, micromanages everything. No camaraderie amongst staff. The entire idea of working for little pay because it is FUN does not exist here. Very stressful working conditions.

    Advice to Management

Treat employees with respect. Hire congenial people that get along with others. Do not lie about what starting pay is. I have tried to reach out to corporate headquarters to speak to a Regional Manager about these issues and have not been able to get past customer service. It seems they do not want to hear any "complaints" from employees. I would challenge Upper Management to call some of the people that quit or were let go this summer and ask their opinion.

I have been working at Kampgrounds of America part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The other employees are great, management is great. It's a great place to work, if you are looking for a first job, this should be your first stop.

    Cons

Since we are right on the bike trail we get a lot of bikers. They generally are not the best customers.

I worked at Kampgrounds of America full-time

    Pros

Good benefits if you work for one of the Corporate owned campgrounds. Nice areas and most employees are friendly and social.

    Cons

Corporate has no idea how employees are treated, what is happening in their campgrounds or which employees are doing the real work to keep the customers happy and which ones are simply taking their money.

    Advice to Management

Talk to all your employees, not the assistant managers or managers about the working conditions and issues within the campground and its people. And listen to the customers who have been coming to your campgrounds for years when they speak. They will tell you who is doing the work that makes you look good.
