I have been working at Kankakee Community College part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

The Faculty and Staff are professional and engaged. There is a true feeling of community among the employees and student body alike. The administration is supportive for any and all efforts and initiatives which serve the Kankakee County at large.

    Cons

All higher education institutions in Illinois are currently struggling to find funding as the state funding for colleges has been slashed by our current IL State Governor.

    Advice to Management

Continue supporting the faculty, staff, and student body until the political climate changes in such a way that we can more effectively accomplish our mission.

I have been working at Kankakee Community College (Less than a year)

    Pros

The faculty has a diverse make-up and there is plenty of parking. It is accessible by bus.

    Cons

The bus system needs to have a direct bus from surrounding areas, such as Pembroke, sometimes the trip with transfers is almost 2 hours.

    Advice to Management

Keep an open mind about the general population needing expanded hours when the computer labs are open, more night and weekend ours are needed.

    Doesn't Recommend

I have been working at Kankakee Community College full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Fair salary and adequate work environment. Job stability for those willing to compromise educational quality and professional standards. Friendly people, diverse student population.

    Cons

General lack of leadership and complete disconnect between departments. Poor communication on all levels which complicates processes and creates confusion. Decisions makers do not value input from faculty/staff/students. Many policies and schedules are based on the best interests of administration and select faculty rather than the students and community they serve. It's all about who you know and align yourself with, not what you know or what skills you have to offer.

    Advice to Management

Increase professional development to mid-level management. Improve communications on all levels. Develop a more student-focused paradigm.

    Pros

Some great faculty. Some good administrators.

    Cons

Walls are crumbling down in older parts of the campus. Salaries are set much lower than state averages. Job titles are purposely set to keep pay bands as low as possible while workload expectations are ridiculous.
