I have been working at Kansas City Board of Public Utilities full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Great pay and benefits. Fully paid. Paid holidays and gym available for employee use. Garage parking to battle weather. Nice building

    Cons

Management is HORRIBLE. Managers do not manage. They let you try to guess the what you should be doing then if you guess wrong, you get written up with no prior warning.

I worked at Kansas City Board of Public Utilities full-time

    Pros

This company has above average benefits

    Cons

They are stuck in the 50's as far as managing goes, still a good 'ole boy network, employees promoted who are not qualified, poor to no leadership, need to clean house and start over. They have a dog eat dog culture.

    Advice to Management

Advice to the Board of Directors - fire the General Manager and bring someone from the outside who has experience in leading a utility company

I have been working at Kansas City Board of Public Utilities full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Great benefits, friendly staff, and laid back environment. It is a great place to retire if you are peeked out on your career.

    Cons

There is no place for moment if you're young. Most people have been there for 10 to 20 years. Also, training and documentation in the IT department needs to be revisted.

    Cons

Non that I can think of.

I worked at Kansas City Board of Public Utilities (Less than a year)

    Pros

Fully company-paid health benefits, good retirement benefits

    Cons

Intentionally terminated my employment because of my service obligation to the Kansas Air National Guard. While they would like to say they did nothing wrong, the evidence overwhelmingly points to the FACT that my termination was due to their reluctance to keep the position open while I was activated for federal or state service -- this is a clear violation of federal employment law.

    Advice to Management

STOP LYING - YOU DO NOT SUPPORT CURRENTLY-SERVING SERVICE MEMBERS WHO WANT TO WORK FOR YOU AS WELL. Search "BPU 168 Days" to learn more.
