    Pros

Decent Benefits, Good People, Some perks. Location isn't great, but it could be worse. The building is somewhat secure. The atmosphere is friendly and cordial. The is very little time pressure as long as the job is done right.

    Cons

Older technology, Older building, Older thinking. They are on outdated and antiquated technology for the major systems, which they've built a giant set of workarounds and kluge apps to help limp along.

    Advice to Management

Hire a new CEO, and give him/her the power to do what is necessary to update the company and it's business plan. The only plan they have now is extinction.

I worked at Kansas City Life full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Good pay and benefits once all benefits like 401k match are taken into account. Stable job. Great place for work/life balance.

    Cons

Company isn't growing and isn't making changes that will result in growth. The continued focus on the GA model is not the way to move forward. Lack of vision from the top leads to numerous unfinished projects and wasted time/money. There appears to be no coherent plan for revenue growth. A large # of employee abuse the work / life balance offered by KCL which means that work isn't getting done and hard workers are frustrated. Lack of accountability on that abuse means that poor performers stick around forever while motivated workers end up frustrated and move on to better jobs with more opportunity and fewer lazy people.

    Advice to Management

New sales and product strategies are needed to kick start growth. The same ideas year-over-year that have failed aren't going to suddenly elicit double digit per year growth. Hire professional outside management and don't just put the next generation in place at the top. Value top talent and make some cultural changes to value & reward excellence while holding poor performers accountable.
