I worked at Kaplan International part-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

Great staff, upper management, STUDENTS, and company culture. I was working here part time--not because I needed to but because I LOVED it there and wanted a more balanced life. My full time job was (is) real estate and I needed something that would add more fun, fulfillment, and satisfaction to my life and thus, Kaplan! I will never forget the students and even visiting some in their home countries; the passionate teachers and staff; and the joy this whole experience has brought to my life.

I have been working at Kaplan International full-time

    Pros

Convenient Location, near the red line

    Cons

Incompetent management. People get terminated not because they’re bad at their job but because the company can’t afford them. No bonus. Annual increase is a joke.

I have been working at Kaplan International full-time for more than a year

    Pros

    - It's a really nice office, there's fresh fruit, it's open spaced, a lot of the employees are really kind. - $50 off parking - convenient

    Cons

    - Domestic team has terrible management: 1. Managers who don't care about you, only about how they are viewed within their title 2. ZERO OWNERSHIP - any problem goes down to the totem pole - you are at fault for your management's mistakes - Extremely sensitive office environment - the company definitely got a lot of lawsuits

    Kaplan International Response

Thank you for taking the time to share your experiences working at the Kaplan International Language School in Seattle. I agree that the students with whom we work are a major motivator for all of our teams. I regret that your experience has been more negative than positive. As the business has evolved and developed over the past two years, it has been necessary to realign certain departments on a targeted basis to maintain the health of the business. The timing of such changes is never easy; and while managers try to be sensitive to this, in some limited cases, it has been necessary to notify employees in November and early December. Your comments about IT infrastructure are well noted, however, I would welcome further detail on this topic if you feel comfortable sharing it. I appreciate your comments about having a mission and vision that values employees. While staff engagement certainly is an important focus for managers of all teams, it is clear from your post that this message is not getting communicated or demonstrated properly. Our company depends heavily on our teams in good times as well as tough ones, so supporting staff is and should always be a priority for every manager in the organization. I respect that Glassdoor is an anonymous site, but I would welcome the chance to have a follow-up conversation with you regarding your thoughts and reflections on Kaplan International Languages. I wish you all the best in your future endeavors. Warm regards Dave (C.O.O.)
