I have been working at Kaplan full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

This is the kind of place you like to come to work every day because you like the people you spend your time with. Kaplan has a value statement and tries hard to stick to it. Professional development over the years has been great- virtual and in-person trainings occur on a variety of topics to help employees improve their skill sets. Plenty of work from home opportunities and family flexibility as well.

    Cons

Constant change. If you aren't comfortable with change, this is not the employer for you. Generally this is a plus; it's a nimble company that adapts quickly to external forces, but employees themselves have to be adaptable as well.

I worked at Kaplan full-time for more than a year

    Pros

    It's a living, I suppose

    Cons

Boring, repetitive work, unprofessional HR department, depressing call center environment

    Advice to Management

The reason you don't retain talent and are shrinking as a company comes back to your basic management style. Look first to HR for abuses of the law and of employees

I have been working at Kaplan full-time

    Pros

This company offers competitive salary and amazing benefits (5 weeks PTO for tenured employees) and some departments allow for work-from-home flexibility.

    Cons

Internal staff is very small and the work load and turn around time on complex assignments can be unreasonable.

"Long hours, low pay, great co-workers"

I have been working at Kaplan full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

Co-workers tend to be intellectually curious, fun, smart people. Many managers started as test prep teachers, so they're smart and have good people skills. Managers who weren't hired as teachers generally fit in with those who were, so they're also good thinkers and good with people. Also, a lot of job roles are remote, and working from home is great. The work itself can be rewarding, if you either enjoy standardized tests or enjoy helping people do well on them so they can access greater opportunities in life. There are opportunities for advancement and for lateral moves to do a lot of different things, although competition for openings tends to be stiff because your co-workers are so talented.

    Cons

I've hardly ever worked less than a 60-hour week. Many people work when they're on vacation. Holidays are basically days without meetings when you can work without interruption and catch up. The pay is about 15%–20% less than market for the same skill set.

    Advice to Management

Think about how much work you want to have done and then hire enough people to do it.

I have been working at Kaplan full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Work with great people. Transparent leadership. In most roles, you also get to work from home. Good community vibe.

    Cons

Pay is low compared to market value. Health insurance is very costly and recently, the primary healthcare provider in my area was deemed "out of network". Very little upward mobility.

    Advice to Management

Find ways to increase pay. Making the company a "great place to work" can only mask the low pay for so long.

I worked at Kaplan for more than 5 years

    Pros

I have nothing positive to say about working at Kaplan.

    Cons

Poor management, terrible pay structure, no opportunities to advance in your career. Kind of ironic for a company that provides test prep services for advanced degrees.

    I worked at Kaplan full-time

    Pros

the people attracted to the semi-academic environment tend to be recent customers, very motivated and knowledgeable, and smart

    Cons

It would be better to integrate teams to the point where content, dev, and business goals are shared and everyone has exposure that will drive their careers, vs leaving content in the dust,

    Advice to Management

turn the desire to educate internal, and invest in employees who show potential, regardless of what part of the business they come from. Think through the career paths offered and help people see them as opportunties.

I have been working at Kaplan full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Flexibility is the number one benefit of working at Kaplan. Fun atmosphere with co-workers. And most of the time rewarding.

    Cons

Not invested in growth of employees. Hard to get raises. Kaplan lacks appreciation of employees. Although they seem to be aware of this , management lacks.
