I have been working at Kaplan full-time

    Pros

This company offers competitive salary and amazing benefits (5 weeks PTO for tenured employees) and some departments allow for work-from-home flexibility.

    Cons

Internal staff is very small and the work load and turn around time on complex assignments can be unreasonable.

    Pros

I have nothing positive to say about working at Kaplan.

    Cons

Poor management, terrible pay structure, no opportunities to advance in your career. Kind of ironic for a company that provides test prep services for advanced degrees.

I worked at Kaplan full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Worked from home, great co-workers, offers a great product despite being a horribly run organization

    Cons

Management is terrible, work life balance is non-existent, employees are dispensable, pay is awful

    Advice to Management

Instead of holding a multitude of pointless "Town hall" meetings, management should start actually addressing the needs of employees. Staff is underpaid, benefits are underwhelming, and constant reorganization efforts only create instability and anxiety.

I have been working at Kaplan

    Pros

It is the industry leader and the company has a firm hold on the competition. The benefits are pretty good. The people are bright and fun to work with. If you have an entrepreneurial spirit. and like having lots of autonomy and ownership, then you might love working at Kaplan.

    Cons

12 hour days are part of the company culture and there's no overtime pay. Work-life balance is essentially non-existent, especially during the busy seasons. Field leadership is very important but is often very weak. This is not a M-F 9-5 type of job.

    Advice to Management

Senior management should have more concern for the sanity of it's young employees. The level of commitment management expects is not commensurate with compensation and is not sustainable. I think the majority of the issues are in the field management. Company leadership is moving in the right direction in a lot of ways, with one major exception: training and development. Kaplan has a very poor training program for new employees and when questioned about employee recruitment and retention, our senior leadership told us they're working on branding Kaplan to make it a more attractive place to work. Yet there's no formal training program for new employees? This just seems to me like a strange use of resources.

    I worked at Kaplan

    Pros

By working in the field, you have the opportunity to directly help students and professionals navigate the graduate school admissions process everyday. Pros: Lots of responsibility given to "green"/entry-level employees. Diverse set of work responsibilities for most job titles. Company infrastructure (intranet, business systems, etc) was extremely user-friendly and helped make your job easier.

    Cons

Cons: Low pay Long hours Huge variance of job function and management expectations between different offices for people with the same job title.

    Advice to Management

Improve career pathing, show that you value high-achieving employees by rewarding them with raises and bonuses, offer a standard comp time structure to alleviate work overload during busy seasons like BTS.

I worked at Kaplan full-time for less than a year

    Pros

    1) Good pay for positions. 2) Other good benefits: pension contribution matching scheme, they'll pay for relevant courses, rail season ticket loan 3) Marketing Team culture: annual marketing team building sessions, monthly team meetings where encouraged to share tests and learnings, willingness to trial new things and desire to be a market leader 4) Business culture: desire to be top employer, charitable 5) Manchester office: enthusiastic and friendly reception staff, good location close to railway station but may relocate soon

    Cons

    1) Marketing Team culture: odd structure of teams and passage of work from "Campaign team" (email, print, partnerships channels) onto others, reduces ability for other marketing team members to co-develop strategies and campaigns and is quite frustrating. Not fault of team members but structure empowers one team more than others. V frustrating if not in the empowered team. Department should have channel managers that are separate to the Product Strategy managers for harmony, smarter workflow so can grow and develop in larger strides. 2) Business culture: Tutors rule. The Product area's cooperation are central to helping Marketing grow, however this is limited at times and more frustrating than the issue above.

    Advice to Management

Reconsider the workflow of the department to clarify which roles have responsibility for working together to devise strategies as these often need to be across channels.

I have been working at Kaplan

    Pros

Very good work environment. Also, there's the ability to move up in the company without putting in too much time. Good benefits as well .

    Cons

The pay is not comparable to that of other companies. They have also done away with annual raises.

    Advice to Management

    Continue to promote from within.
