I have been working at Kaplan part-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Absolutely wonderful management that take care of their employees and ensure efficient opportunities for advancement, pay raise, and quality class progress.

    Cons

A lot of long-distance training and you won't get to meet many of your coworkers. At the same time, Kaplan has utilized a plethora of face-to-face chat functions to close the distance between employees, co-workers, and managers.

    Advice to Management

    Keep up the awesome work!

I have been working at Kaplan part-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Flexibility, young, supportive supervisors, working with students, use of new technology all great. Most assignments can be done online these days and most online assignments go smoothly. Excellent for people with academic skills, teaching experience, and a drive to help motivated students.

    Cons

Constant change means frequent re-preparation for course material. Sometimes the online access framework is buggy, which hampers both the student and teacher experience.

    Advice to Management

    None!

I have been working at Kaplan part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Good basic training on test prep, decent lesson materials, opportunity to work with (mostly) enthusiastic students, manager rewards top performance with first choice of classes, pay raises

    Cons

Pay is too low for work; other than teaching, all other work (class prep, e-mails to students, admin) is paid at minimum wage, no compensation for travel time to classes (up to an hour away). A bit of a bureaucracy to contend with.

    Advice to Management

Streamline the dozens of websites that teachers have to access. Make materials (especially SAT) more geared towards realistically achievable problems for most students, with a few more advanced problems, rather than putting in too many advanced problems.

I worked at Kaplan full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

There isn't anything positive about this fake college. The people that work there are mostly of working-class backgrounds and know almost nothing about higher-education.

    Cons

The executives and managers are all poorly educated and dim. No one trusts anyone and the director of enrollment is a ditzy floozy.

    Advice to Management

Fire yourselves and allow your employees more autonomy.

I worked at Kaplan full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Detailed Lesson Manuals! Great Support System! Manager can usually find another teacher to cover your class for you with 24 hours notice. Lesson preparation is easy after you've taught it 2 times.

    Cons

Class preparation outside paid work hours is very time consuming, especially the first time you teach a class.

I worked at Kaplan part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    - work on your own schedule
    - build public speaking skills

    Cons

    - work is very inconsistent depending on success of the sales team
    - curriculum has shifted completely toward test taking skills and away from content

    Advice to Management

The Kaplan way needs to shift back toward using test taking skills while reinforcing content comprehension.

I worked at Kaplan full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Great place to gain experience and work with a diverse population

    Cons

There is no security actively present on the campus.

    Advice to Management

Ensure that staff and students actively understand security measures as it relates to badges and parking garage. The Philadelphia campus is located directly across from 30th Street Station with an entrance to the subway adjacent to the student entrance. Many people filter in this direction.

    Pros

Great place to work. Great managers. Have never worked for better. Very supportive. Joyful.
Excellent facility and resources. Smartboards in every classroom. Excellent program. Rolling enrollment took time to get used to especially in an integrated skills program but it works.

    Cons

Salary is "competitive" but that really isn't saying much. Not much room for growth.

    Advice to Management

    Never change. Never move on!
