I have been working at Kaplan University full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Good pay, 1.5x pay for any time over 40 hours. 100% free graduate/undergraduate/certificate education for employee & 50% off tuition costs for immediate family members.

    Cons

Hard to reach numbers at times, precarious situations, frequent layoffs, no room for advancement.

    Advice to Management

Supply advisors with more leads to attempt to convert for your underlying goals.

I have been working at Kaplan University part-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Keeps Faculty aware of changes with communication
Flexibility as an online faculty member
    Various scholarship opportunities

    Cons

Earning less while KU expects more (literally had an opportunity to teach 2 classes twice during the 10 years of being employed.)
    Limited diversity in upper management
Limited opportunity for growth within KU (they overload with adjuncts and have limited full-time faculty members).

    Advice to Management

Offer some type of extra benefit/bonus for long term loyal adjunct faculty. Demand quality treatment and better pay for your long term committed adjuncts, especially in the midst of the buy out from Purdue. Don't leave the folks that helped 'make KU' behind. Implement more diversity (there are limited minorities in upper management, why is that? Offer efforts for long-term adjuncts, don't make them feel like they will never be full-time. If they are employed past 5 years they should automatically be offered full-time.

I have been working at Kaplan University part-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Flexibility as an online faculty member.
KU aims to keep faculty and staff well aware and informed of pending changes.
Opportunities for internal best practices type training.

    Cons

Earning less while KU expects more (literally had pay reduced, benefits eliminated, and course load maximums increased over a ten - fifteen year period).
Limited opportunity for growth within KU (they overload with adjuncts).
Catering to 'the majority' even in remote positions.

    Advice to Management

Offer some type of extra benefit/bonus for long term loyal adjunct faculty. Demand quality treatment and better pay for your long term committed adjuncts, especially in the midst of the buy out from Purdue. Don't leave the folks that helped 'make KU' behind.

I have been working at Kaplan University part-time

    Pros

Great colleagues to work with but too many "Yes Sir", "Yes Madam" afraid of the yearly chopping block.
    Frequent curriculum updates.

    Cons

A third generation school; students passing grade of 60%; registers too many unprepared students; management decisions are all over the place and in the wrong direction; poor medical benefits; poor salary compensation (working at a fast-food pay better as $/hr rate); yearly firings; feel bad for Purdue if the merger is approved; (NOTE: decision of the proposed merger was made by top management without consulting with Departmental VPs!)

    Advice to Management

Hire new top management e,g., President, ProVost, etc.

    Pros

When Kaplan is working, it is decent employer though the pay like all adjunct faculty gigs is poor and benefits non existent.

    Cons

They haven't contacted me in ayear to teach a class, this happened once before, yet they seem to expect one to waste hours and hours of uncompensated time on training and staff meetings.

    Advice to Management

Quit nickel and diming adjunct faculty.

    Pros

The healthcare benefits are amazing. Senior management wants to do the right thing. Really care about students and is a cut above the rest of the online competition. Prevailing culture across departments is "ATM" At the moment, you have to be used to a fast pace changing environment.

    Cons

"ATM" sometimes things change extremely fast. I think it is the same almost everywhere, mid level managers could make or break everything.

I have been working at Kaplan University full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Great co-workers, some of the best and brightest in the field!

    Cons

Very low pay for full time faculty (45k-50k annually)
class sizes increased to 40+ students per class, impossible to manage effectively

    Advice to Management

Reduce class sizes! WAY too many students per class. Most online classes cap at 20 students. Ours are twice that and sometimes more.
