I have been working at Kaplan University part-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Keeps Faculty aware of changes with communication
Flexibility as an online faculty member
    Various scholarship opportunities

    Cons

Earning less while KU expects more (literally had an opportunity to teach 2 classes twice during the 10 years of being employed.)
    Limited diversity in upper management
Limited opportunity for growth within KU (they overload with adjuncts and have limited full-time faculty members).

    Advice to Management

Offer some type of extra benefit/bonus for long term loyal adjunct faculty. Demand quality treatment and better pay for your long term committed adjuncts, especially in the midst of the buy out from Purdue. Don't leave the folks that helped 'make KU' behind. Implement more diversity (there are limited minorities in upper management, why is that? Offer efforts for long-term adjuncts, don't make them feel like they will never be full-time. If they are employed past 5 years they should automatically be offered full-time.

I have been working at Kaplan University part-time

    Pros

Great colleagues to work with but too many "Yes Sir", "Yes Madam" afraid of the yearly chopping block.
    Frequent curriculum updates.

    Cons

A third generation school; students passing grade of 60%; registers too many unprepared students; management decisions are all over the place and in the wrong direction; poor medical benefits; poor salary compensation (working at a fast-food pay better as $/hr rate); yearly firings; feel bad for Purdue if the merger is approved; (NOTE: decision of the proposed merger was made by top management without consulting with Departmental VPs!)

    Advice to Management

Hire new top management e,g., President, ProVost, etc.

    Pros

Work from home possibilities, a few nice colleagues

    Cons

Incompetent management that goes to the very top of KHPE, lack of vision, reliance on outdated ways of recruiting students, execs who don't understand higher ed, marketing team that is a total cluster

    Advice to Management

It's time for a complete reboot. Enrollments are dropping and not recovering. KU's reputation is terrible.

I worked at Kaplan University full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

The consultative sales techniques you're taught are easily transferrable to other positions and the ability to take classes for another degree are nice.

    Cons

Where do I start. The calls are sent to you from another call center who is just trying to hit their numbers of calls transferred. These people filled something out saying they may be interested in pursuing higher education while browsing facebook or applying for jobs because they're out of work. These people are typically lazy and won't help you hit the insane sales goals set for you every month. Management has no idea what the hell they're doing as policies seem to change every day. The price of a bachelors degree from an online college shouldn't be $64000. That is predatory.

    Advice to Management

Quit. You're horrible at your job and should find something else to do with your time besides rip downtrodden people off and harass your employees.

I worked at Kaplan University full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

100% paid tuition for full-time employees. Every once in a while we get free breakfast/lunch. You get to experience student's lives and help them make a change.

    Cons

It's a stringent business, and they care about the bottom line. "Internal Leadership changes" forced them to lay off several people for no reason whatsoever. I worked there a bit over a year and, including myself, have seen at lest 7 people either get fired or quit... 7 in a staff of maybe 20, so that shows how much they care about the students: don't care if there is enough manpower to assist them all. Tuition is ridiculously high, and ethical and legal code-breaking happens on a regular. Everyone is just out for themselves. You're overloaded with work and overwhelmed and you take as much time as possible to meet deadlines, but you're not allowed overtime, so you must work through an unpaid lunch just to try to get things done. The stress levels get you sick, you call off work a day to recover, and the workload is just twice as high and now you're getting criticized for being out.

    Advice to Management

If you keep on laying off your best people, your institution will fall, just like all of the other private online colleges. Stop treating everything like a business and assume that everyone is replaceable, because it's not. No room for growth. Please follow the law.

I worked at Kaplan University full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    Salary, benefits, flexibility, team, workshops

    Cons

Our manager at the Rockville campus was two faced, displayed favoritism, unfair and unpleasant. She is probably still there because she lied and deceived upper management over and again. Micromanagement to the max. She Only cared about getting numbers.....didn't care about what the students needed.

    Advice to Management

Stop micromanaging people and causing office issues within the team
