I worked at Kaplan University full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Good benefits and decent opportunities for advancement. The "Gift of Knowledge" program is also very helpful

    Cons

inefficient management and a disconnect between company goals and everyday practices.

    Advice to Management

Be more ethical and higher managers who are more aligned with overall company goals not solely their own goals.

I have been working at Kaplan University part-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Flexibility as an online faculty member.
KU aims to keep faculty and staff well aware and informed of pending changes.
Opportunities for internal best practices type training.

    Cons

Earning less while KU expects more (literally had pay reduced, benefits eliminated, and course load maximums increased over a ten - fifteen year period).
Limited opportunity for growth within KU (they overload with adjuncts).
Catering to 'the majority' even in remote positions.

    Advice to Management

Offer some type of extra benefit/bonus for long term loyal adjunct faculty. Demand quality treatment and better pay for your long term committed adjuncts, especially in the midst of the buy out from Purdue. Don't leave the folks that helped 'make KU' behind.

I worked at Kaplan University (More than 3 years)

    Pros

There are some smart people here that probably don't know they would be even more valuable somewhere else.

    Cons

The product is suboptimal, takes a long time to get promoted. Not really a true higher education group. If you want to move into traditional higher education, this will work against you in anything other than admissions.

    Advice to Management

More diversity in your upper management

    Pros

The company will compensate you based on your productivity.

    Cons

Too many bad apples. Management does not have a clue.

    Advice to Management

    New middle management is needed.

I have been working at Kaplan University full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Great co-workers, some of the best and brightest in the field!

    Cons

Very low pay for full time faculty (45k-50k annually)
class sizes increased to 40+ students per class, impossible to manage effectively

    Advice to Management

Reduce class sizes! WAY too many students per class. Most online classes cap at 20 students. Ours are twice that and sometimes more.

    Pros

The healthcare benefits are amazing. Senior management wants to do the right thing. Really care about students and is a cut above the rest of the online competition. Prevailing culture across departments is "ATM" At the moment, you have to be used to a fast pace changing environment.

    Cons

"ATM" sometimes things change extremely fast. I think it is the same almost everywhere, mid level managers could make or break everything.

    Pros

Relaxed dress code, decent training program for new hires, and the food downstairs was a great benefit to all employees. GOK Program

    Cons

Extremely goal oriented even if it wasn't always in the best interest financially for prospective students. Financial aid training was a big miss on training programs and made it difficult to speak to students on factual basis.

    Advice to Management

Hooking up with Purdue University significantly increased the KU brand value and overall attractiveness to attend the University. GOK Program needs to go back to being free for employees.

I have been working at Kaplan University full-time

    Pros

By comparison slightly higher pay than the industry in Admissions. If you do well, flexible time schedule with potential for work from home

    Cons

Low raises 1%, management/leadership introduce initiatives before they are ready. Programs are offered by simply don't have the potential for students to complete and make a good living. Retention for students in in 20% range, while graduates is less than 5%

    Advice to Management

Plan initiatives before releasing new programs

    Pros

Huge company, a lot of opportunities for advancement. Decent work life balance and pay is competitive

    Cons

Sometimes feels a bit redundant. Working for an industry that doesn't get great press can be a bit challenging

    Advice to Management

    None

    Pros

You can thank the Lord and pay your bills

    Cons

Too much politics. You have to kiss upper managements butt to move up. Once you are stigmatized there is no coming from it. Get paid too little compared to the Success Managers.
