    Great company!

Dec 19, 2018 - MCAT Instructor in New Orleans, LA

    Pros

Pay, management, and training are all top notch! I've worked for other test prep companies and Kaplan is a better place to work by a long shot. Great opportunities for working remotely.

    Cons

Difficult finding local work. There were opportunities that required traveling, but local classes were few and far between, sometimes getting cancelled days before the start date. Would be difficult as a full-time job or if you depend on regular pay checks.

    A Company Serious About Improving

Aug 26, 2021 - Vice President Data Management in Fort Worth, TX
    Recommend
    CEO Approval
    Business Outlook

    Pros

    - Kaplan is not all-talk when it comes to addressing employee feedback. They are serious about pursuing improvement opportunities. - Management styles are mixed, but the influential leaders truly care about their employees and go out of their way to influence retention and workplace satisfaction. - Investing heavily in the newest technologies.

    Cons

    - Management holdout from an outdated culture slow the progress of improvement. *It's happening anyway* - The company needs to build a competitive salary structure that is based on national benchmarks instead of regional models to be competitive.

    Slowly dying

    Apr 26, 2021 - Academic Medical Advisor

    Business Outlook

    Pros

The satisfaction of helping medical students.

    Cons

Middle management doesn't really know what they're doing and have caused the demise of Kaplan. While the pandemic was the seal that forced them to shutdown all their centers except for NY, it's middle management that caused the decrease in centers from over 100 to 5 in the first place. Their constant attempts at budget cuts and lack of innovation led to students not wanting to participate anymore.

    A modern day titanic

    May 2, 2021 - Anonymous Employee

    Pros

Used to be a great company with good pay, benefits and focus on the customer. Key phrase is "USED TO BE"

    Cons

Management, middle management and any new hires trained by current management are inept. The whole company has been gutted and replaced by favorites of executives who don't have the correct skills or business acumen for the position. I've worked at Kaplan for a long time and saw a sharp transition from successful business model focused on students to an unsuccessful strategy to move money from workers to csuite members (read salary cuts for workers while Csuite bonuses and salaries were resumed). Management doesn't value customers or workers.

Used to be a great place to work

Jan 19, 2021 - Sales Consultant in Orlando, FL

    Business Outlook

    Pros

Can work remote. Flexible. Good benefits.

    Cons

Low salaries. No job security after COVID. Changed to Kaplan North America, with new leadership, and it hasn't been for the best.

    All Good Things - Change

    Pros

Before the acquisition by Kaplan we were a tight knit team who worked well together, the students experience matter the most.

    Cons

Too many things to list but after we were acquired and became a "big company" people left and everything changed.

They care about numbers more than people

    Dec 15, 2018 - Anonymous Employee

    Pros

Kaplan Brand logo and original purpose, marketing.

    Cons

Leadership completely out of touch with other levels. Motivated by margin not taking care of their people. Uncreative with how to make profit, resort to eliminating employees instead of finding the root problem with exec leadership. Lack of loyalty.

    School Relationships Manager

    Oct 20, 2018 - Business Developer/School Relationships Manager
    Recommend

    Business Outlook

    Pros

Kaplan definitely allows for a great deal of autonomy for employees who work remotely, which many of the sales/relationship management people do. Difference is seemingly affirmed at Kaplan, as well.

    Cons

Very, very poor training. The training, even for entry-level employees, consists of a few online modules--that are essentially glorified powerpoint-like presentations. Then, employees are expected to understand everything. This is a falsity and a poor model. Kaplan is seemingly great for employees who to come to their respective roles with background experience relevant to their position. It is horrible if you do not!
