I have been working at Karl Schmidt Unisia (More than 3 years)

    Pros

The ability to learn multiple CNC machines and advance in a company based upon your drive, motivation and skill set.
A lot of overtime if you care more about the money than a personal life. Non physical, but very much a smart job. You use your brain a lot, solve complex problems using your expertise and skills and there is always something to do

    Cons

    MANAGEMENT and UPPER MANAGEMENT.
Lies. They place targets on your back and believe me if they do not like you, they WILL find SOME reason to get rid of you whether you've been there for 5 months or 25 years.
I have seen multiple great people with tons of piston technology knowledge leave because management changes so much and the leadership there especially in human resources is terrible. They make up rules as they go along, they set you up for failure and if you reach goals and get incentives, they set the next goals where they are next to impossible to reach and then make you feel like crap when you don't reach them even though it's not your fault, its the old, fallen apart machinery and equipment that they fail to replace after multiple complains for years and years.
I can go on and on, but honestly, they'll take anyone who kisses butt and hand them a supervisor job regardless of experience.

    Advice to Management

Look around at other local companies and see how they treat their employees. Trust me, I've worked at many of them. enough money to do so.
Appreciate your operators, technicians and engineers and all the hard work and hours they put in to make YOU GUYS look good.
Give them cash incentives. Don't act like you don't hav

I worked at Karl Schmidt Unisia full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

If you enjoy making changes and improving the process, you can do that here.
KS has many robots and machines to learn how to use them effectively.
There is good use of capital spending to grow the business (see cons for other side)

    Cons

It is a typical large company that is owned by an overseas firm: investors come first and Germany guides all the decisions.
It can be hard to update existing machinery and tools.
As with many companies these days, the attitude is pretty bad in the shop.
Expect a lot of overtime (sometimes way too much, especially as an hourly employee or supervisor!)

    Advice to Management

With most companies these days, it seems there is a disconnect between upper management and lower echelons of the company. Talk to those people and find out what their concerns are and make a concerted effort to change those problems and show employees they matter and they will be more efficient.

    Pros

    Great Moral from employess
Management all worked up from starting positons so they know what goes on beyond their office and are easy to get along with.
    Porfit Sharing

    Cons

The factory is rather dirty and poorly lit. Excessive machine downtime can lead to you being sent home early if it can not be fixed

    Advice to Management

Shift Managers were great. Incentives for high production rates should be awarded to a department rather that to the whole plant.
