    Pros

Well Respected in the office - Designers.

    Cons

Not so respected in the office - Technologists.

    Advice to Management

Be as nice and respectful as your CEO. Realise there is such a thing as the cost of living and those in Vancouver may need it.

    Pros

They are quite innovative and forward thinking. The staff are young and energetic and the office social activities are usually always enjoyable.

    Cons

The company is global and it can be difficult to get the support you need when most things operate out of the head office. As a result there are a lot of mixed messages and confusion about how things should run. As well, there is a lot of pressure to work harder and faster and take on more even when your effort is maximized already.

I have been working at Kasian full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Well run Toronto office is a subsidiary of the larger international Kasian Architecture Planning and Interior Design company. Operates in many different markets and collaboration between offices at various locations assures steady work load. Non-managerial employees are eligible to overtime pay. Supportive in career development. Decent salaries comparing to the situation in the industry

    Cons

40 hours week (company originated in Alberta), pricey health benefits, no pension contribution by the employer, no bonuses. Corporate feel despite small size.

    Advice to Management

realize that working 40 hours a week is not productive, more appreciation for employees.

I have been working at Kasian full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Comprising of groups of talented professionals working well together; compensation and benefits are quite good. Friendly and supportive working atmosphere.

    Cons

Some disconnects on being uptodate with current labour law - we still work 40 hrs week, while others already on 37.5 hrs week. Company does not have any matching contribution for retirement.

    Advice to Management

Need to see how the others are doing it.

I worked at Kasian full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Smart, creative people and good working environment

    Cons

AEC is a challenging sector to work in especially for archtiects with downward pricing pressure and a diminishing number of large projects. Kasian, like all other firms, will need to downsize to reduce costs and stay competitive.

    Advice to Management

Keep pushing forward and be clear on how you are different from other firms.

I worked at Kasian full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    Nice office and great coworkers.

    Cons

Intense deadlines, cut budgets, lots of last minute pressure. HR preaches to take breaks, but you fall behind if you do. Little reward. Inconvenient location for those without cars.

    Advice to Management

Show appreciation to employees. Even simple thank yous, acknowledging job well done, letting employees leave an hour or two early before Christmas break without needing to request vacation.

  9. "Poor management and no creativity from within the office - mostly hire other firms to do the designs"

    Pros

    Diverse set of skills
Provision to be the boss' pet

    Cons

Management does not have a handle on their client's funds and prefer to spend on galas etc while laying off their employees
Lots of power struggle at all levels
Not a clear picture of an employees career outlook
Dog eat dog situation which is an added stress to the everyday job demands

    Advice to Management

    Manage
Set clear goals and meet them
Stop with the favourites that can't produce a single set of usable information
