I worked at Katz Media Group full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Very flexible, good amount of vaca/sick days. Independent work, don't need to rely on others in the office to get work done. Work from home available. Good place to get industry experience, but get in and get out. If you don't see any progress in growth within a couple years, your time is up. Move on... other places pay better!

    Cons

Low salary starting out. Management plays favorites. Training process was horrible for a new employee and as trying to grow and move up in the company. You pretty much have to figure things out for yourself. Same work day in and day out, not a rewarding job. Broadcast TV advertising is declining, budgets are being cut and layoffs are increasing! 3 layoffs nation wide over 1 year. Company obviously doesn't plan well for when times get tough, they will just let people go.

    Advice to Management

Stop playing favorites. Create relationships with everyone.

    Pros

Great people in the office! Everyone was willing to help and pitch in to help each other out.

    Cons

Short staffed. Each person is dealing with more than a full workload. Completely undefined commission pay scale. Commission was a large part of the pay, and no one knows what they'll make until a couple of days before. Commission is based on a completely unspecified budget that only corporate knows. They pay what they choose based on how much money they've spent elsewhere during the quarter.

    Advice to Management

Be more transparent with the commission goals and individual incentives. Hire more people, and quit pouring money into faulty software.

    Pros

The New York office has a handful of good people - Al Romano is the only saving grace on the Eagle floor.

    Cons

The pay, the layoffs, the company vision/mission/future, the limited opportunities for growth. When you sign your non-compete to become an AE you are basically stuck with the pathetic $35,000 or $33,000 base salary they think is an excuse for a "livable wage" and the company wide commission structure (when they never meet budget) will only get you to about $37,000 (my tax return for 2017 is a joke). They just had another company wide layoff which eliminated about 40-50 people in all their offices nationwide. The worst thing is if you look for another sales job from here they will ask about 'quotas, numbers, etc' and you hardly have anything to show for it after working here. Do yourself a favor and work ANYWHERE else upon graduating college. This place is a black hole and you will gain little to no valuable skills moving forward. You're also looked down upon for taking your full hour for lunch and will most likely get nasty demeanor from your co-workers if you do.

    Advice to Management

The company is sinking faster than the Titanic and upper management still thinks we are "inventing the future". If you are inventing the future start selling digital, mobile, anything else!!! Pay your employees more so they can actually survive. Under $40k in a big city while your employees are most likely having to pay $1000 or more for an apartment is joke. Awful company.

    Pros

    Friendly environment.Company outings -Training
    - Work life balance is okay - great media experience - some opportunities through the company

    Cons

You CAN and WILL be "terminated" at will and there is absolutely nothing you can do about it. And you will be "terminated" because I've been here long enough to see the pattern. Let go of the old/seasoned employee and hire new employees for less and call it a "RIF" or reduction in business. Not only do you go on day to day worrying which day will be your last working at Katz, but the pay is extremely low! Management lacks direction and the teams' overall structure is unorganized/understaffed.

    Advice to Management

Listen to your employees- they see the work day to day. Pay them and treat them better.

Feb 21, 2017 – Director of Human Resources

It is understood and agreed by Katz employees, that employment is on an “at-will basis.” This means that both the employee and Katz have the right to terminate someone's employment for any reason or ... More
