    Pros

One of the best reasons to work at KSM is that employees are #1 here. They truly care about every single employee and everyday I went into work I was extremely happy to be there. As a recent intern, I joined KSM as a full-time staff memeber starting in January 2017 for multiple reasons. But the main reason i joined KSM was because of the people I worked with. During my internship, everyone was extremely helpful and patient with me..which was very comforting as a lot of my work was very challenging. Another main reason I joined was because of the work I was exposed to. As an audit intern, I was exposed to many different businesses and industries which made the experience one of a kind! One thing that KSM does that no other internship (as an audit intern) does is expose you to both audit AND tax. As an audit intern. most accounting firms in Indianapolis have you finish up mid-March when audit season is about done. But KSM does more than that, they expose you to the other side of the playing field in tax, which is a great learning experience and makes KSM that much more unique! Katz, Sapper & Miller is the cream of the crop and if you're looking for a place where employees are #1, wonderful co-workers to work with, and exposed to many industries and businesses, this is the place to be!

    Cons

I honestly couldn't think of a single, negative thing about KSM.

I worked at Katz, Sapper & Miller, LLP full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

A lot smart people there, pay is pretty good, learn a lot about tax, pretty flexible as long as you get your work done

    Cons

There can be some difficult people to work with depending on the department, benefits are pretty bad (basically a pay decrease), it takes quite a long time to get responsibility for projects

    Advice to Management

Benefits are quite uncompetitive compared to market making it easier to switch firms when opportunities arise, make remote work opportunities more available

    Pros

Smart and talented co workers who give it 100% al the time to benefit the client. Good environment in which to do your job

    Cons

Some of the management is shallow and petty. They micromanage and use losing your job as a motivator. There is a lot of talking behind people's backs and whispering.

    Advice to Management

Adopt more progressive management methods. Be more transparent and genuine

The elite of the accounting world, truly a first class operation all the way. KSM does a great job taking care of its associates with a focus on employee development through continuous and valuable training. A true family atmosphere with a genuine commitment to work - life balance. KSM's Executive Management and Partners do a great job embodying the firm's Mission Statement and Core Values. It was a privilege to work with such a talented team of individuals.

    Cons

There were no cons for my time with KSM. They were one of the best employers that I have ever worked for.

I have been working at Katz, Sapper & Miller, LLP full-time

    Pros

snack room is nice, flexible schedule, access to Pacers tickets (if you're one of the top people), a great tax review department (review only, they don't prep anything). Great firm for first year accountants and partners

    Cons

Cult mentality, any questioning of upper level is met with either firing you or removing you from clients, or both. Very shady upper level management, you'll have one person wanting to help and 3 people wanting to undercut you. Partners work in opposition of each other and don't want anyone to help them. There's a reason the mid-level people are 3-5 year CPA's, once you open your eyes you either leave or are shown the door. Only positive feedback is allowed. Recently expanded to FW and expects to land every big business at the expense of smaller clients.

    Advice to Management

Realize "the KSM way" can be improved, and your way isn't always the best. Give employee's feedback more than once/year.

    Pros

KSM offers a great work environment for either an experienced hire or a recent college graduate. The highlights of working there are a great team environment, plenty of upward mobility, great mentor program and good training for new hires. They are very flexible about work schedules, which is great for anyone with children. Overall, it is a great place to work and would highly suggest it to anyone.

    Cons

Being a public accounting firm it can be hectic with long hours during busy season which is expected due to the industry but there are plenty of perks including catered meals and good snacks.

    Advice to Management

Find a way to push some of the work to earlier in the busy season instead of the mad dash the last couple of weeks before the April 15th deadline.

    Pros

Katz, Sapper and Miller is a very professional and inviting atmosphere. When I heard there was a job opening, I immediately jumped on the opportunity to work with an extremely well known firm. The previous job I left used them and many of my parent’s workplaces utilized their accounting expertise. (As it turns out, we had been working closely for years and didn’t know it!) The staff has been great, catching me up to speed and welcoming me into the KSM family!

    Cons

I haven't experienced anything I can comment on that's negative at this point. There may be things that could use improvement on, but it remains to be seen for me.

    Advice to Management

I think Management is doing a great job. It is a very controlled environment and it needs to be. I'm grateful for the opportunity to work in a very professional atmosphere with a well-regarded company.

I worked at Katz, Sapper & Miller, LLP full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Great people, solid compensation, amazing snacks, extremely flexible with hours/remote work, management that listens to employees, good training program, flexible career path.

    Cons

Inherent in most public accounting firms is the difficult-to-achieve work-life balance. KSM is like most other public accounting firms in this regard, but does well at offering remote work opportunities and flexible career opportunities to accommodate different lifestyles and career goals. The hours can be intense at times, but this is normal for public accounting firms.

The health insurance and retirement programs could be slightly better, but are not bad by any means.

    Advice to Management

Continue as you have been doing with the listening to employees. Being listened to and flexible makes a huge difference to employees, and KSM has been top-notch at this in my experience.
