It’s decent money but the corporate figure heads are annoying.

    Pros

Pretty good benefits and paid time off if you stay for 2 year as a part timer. Great discount. That’s about it.

    Cons

Hours constantly cut or we were scheduled too much. Too much corporate brain washing that happens daily. They trend you against previous numbers that may be higher than what your actual traffic is like but they will still tell you you’re not doing enough to get people in even though sometimes customers are realistically broke. Like right after Christmas they want you invite people to a new years sale and don’t forget valentines is coming. Walk ins have made up for 10X more sales than scheduled ones. You’re constantly put on a score board that shows your store could always be doing better. They’ll always be like “well you sold this much last year” so just repeat what you do. That’s not how life works, the people and conditions change. COVID made a lot of these people feeling vulnerable. Also Kays and Jared members need to stop the melodrama. So many times a jared store wouldn’t send me jewelry because someone made up a rule going around Jared’s that Kay’s and Jared’s can’t send each other jewelry. expecting people to drop their whole/ half a day to open up a store cuz some got sick.

    Lots of opportunity for growth

    Nov 30, 2022 - Store Manager

    Business Outlook

    Pros

Lots of growth potential if you are a hard worker and good sales. Great discount. Can move up quickly. Commission potential and bonus potential can be good. Upper management is always available for help.

    Cons

Work life balance can be slim to none as a store manager. You will get calls on your days off, etc. If you are short staffed or have team members call off you can expect to work on your days off. Long working hours, especially during holidays. Managers are expected to work a lot of 12 hour shifts, where you are standing the majority of the time. During holiday almost every shift you work is 11-12 hours and you will work overtime, but you are salary so you won’t get any additional pay. The company changed the bonus a few years ago from a profit based bonus, to a sales based bonus, so now store manager does not bonus anything unless store hits 98% of goal or higher each month.

Retail work is hard and pay is soft

Oct 5, 2022 - Store Manager in Seekonk, MA
    Recommend

    Business Outlook

    Pros

    • Great for interpersonal skill. • Great for a career without technical skills or college degree. • Amazing discount (because jewelry is disgustingly overpriced) * Metlife Legal was a great option and saved me thousands as I handled a lot of legal documentation in putting property into trusts and whatnot.

    Cons

    • Hyper Competitive/Aggressive with the people you spend every day with. • Goals are always set so high that you must be top performer AND lucky to hit them. (I almost always hit my goals, but again... luck involved). • Raises are about 1/3 the national average.. so its a time bomb till your salary falls way behind average. • No holidays off... in fact you must work EXTRA around holidays and get no compensation for it.. just guilt if your goals are not met. • You must convince people to open credit cards or even worse Progressive Leasing... the MOST predatory lending company out there.. or you can be held accountable for doing a bad job. • I've never worked in a more racist industry. It's mind blowing what the average employee thinks/is willing to say. Mind you, I live in a state/county that is known to be insanely liberal. I had t write up employees for using racial slurs and they didn't understand why it wasn't ok. People in their 50's... ^ This was brought up to the company, they felt as though written warnings was enough. But, you know, everyone was white so why would they care. • Health care is terrible.

    Pros

    You can make decent money

    Cons

You have to live there, not much of a work life balance every weekend late hours during holidays and you end up as just a number in a corporate world they don't care about you. Overall I feel I wasted 16 years of my life
